The Cost Accountant (Payment Focus) is responsible for managing and processing payments, ensuring accurate recording of financial transactions, and maintaining proper cost documentation. The role also supports cost tracking, reporting, and operational efficiency within the finance department.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field of study with relevant work experience

  • Experience: 2–3 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in payment processing or cost control.

  • Knowledge of Ethiopian tax law, IFRS, and internal control procedures.

  • Familiarity with accounting software and ERP systems.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Payments & Disbursement Management – 40%
    o Process supplier payments, employee reimbursements, and operational disbursements.
    o Ensure proper approval and supporting documentation for all payments.
    o Reconcile payments against invoices, contracts, and purchase orders.

  2. Cost Recording & Analysis Support – 25%
    o Track and record operational costs accurately in the accounting system.
    o Assist in preparing cost reports for management review.
    o Support variance analysis and cost control initiatives.

  3. Bank & Cash Reconciliation – 15%
    o Reconcile bank statements and cash accounts.
    o Monitor daily cash flow related to operational payments.

  4. Compliance & Documentation – 10%
    o Ensure compliance with company payment policies and Ethiopian tax regulations.
    o Maintain organized records of all payment transactions for auditing purposes.

  5. Team Collaboration – 10%
    o Work closely with Finance Manager, Senior Accountant, and other team members to ensure smooth payment operations.
    o Provide timely information for budgeting and financial reporting.

  6. Other Duties: %
    o Perform work orders and assignments from the Finance Manager / Senior Accountant as required.
