The company undertakes large-scale commercial farming, specializing in banana, maize production and integrated agricultural operations at its farms in Arbaminch, Wozeka and Koshale, Southern Ethiopia. Summary of the position
We are looking for a qualified and experienced Agronomist to support commercial farm operations. The Agronomist will be responsible for technical supervision and monitoring of crop production from land preparation through harvesting, with a focus on productivity, quality, efficient input utilization and cost-effective production. S/he reports to the Farm Manager.
Major Crops: Maize, Mung Bean, Sesame, Banana, Onion, Pepper, Watermelon and other crops as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities
Plan and supervise crop production activities, including land preparation, planting, fertilization, irrigation, weeding, crop protection and harvesting.
Monitor crop growth and ensure appropriate agronomic practices for field crops, banana and vegetables.
Manage soil fertility, irrigation, weeds, pests and diseases, including IPM and safe agrochemical application.
Supervise field operations and farm labor to ensure timely and quality completion of activities.
Monitor crop yield, production, input utilization and costs, identify variances and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain accurate field records and prepare regular production and agronomic reports.
Ensure compliance with Good Agricultural Practices, environmental requirements and occupational health and safety procedures.
Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
Job Requirements
Educational Qualification and Work Experiance
BSc Degree or above in Plant Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, Crop Production & Protection, General Agriculture or a related field.
Minimum 3 years of proven professional experience in private and commercial farm operations.
Practical experience in rainfed and irrigated agriculture is highly desirable.
Required Competencies
Knowledge and practical experience in field crops, horticultural crops and crop protection.
Strong field supervision, problem-solving, communication and reporting skills.
Ability and willingness to work and live in remote areas and under challenging farm conditions.
Ability to work independently and effectively under pressure.
Problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
