The Ambulance Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of patients, medical personnel, and medical supplies. The position requires adherence to traffic regulations, emergency response procedures, and vehicle maintenance standards while ensuring patient safety and confidentiality.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely operate the ambulance during emergency and non-emergency patient transport.

  • Transport patients, medical personnel, and essential medical equipment to designated health facilities.

  • Conduct daily inspections of the ambulance to ensure it is clean, roadworthy, and fully equipped.

  • Maintain vehicle logbooks, fuel records, and maintenance records accurately.

  • Report mechanical faults, accidents, or other vehicle-related issues promptly to the appropriate authority.

  • Ensure the ambulance is adequately fuelled and ready for emergency response at all times.

  • Assist healthcare personnel with loading and unloading patients when required.

  • Follow emergency response protocols and traffic regulations while ensuring the safety of patients and staff.

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding patients and medical information.

  • Perform other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of Grade 10 completion (TVET or higher qualifications are an advantage).

  • Valid Ethiopian driving licence appropriate for operating ambulances.

  • At least 1 year of professional driving experience, preferably in ambulance, health facility, or emergency transport services.

  • Good knowledge of Ethiopian traffic laws and road safety regulations.

  • Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency response procedures is an added advantage.

  • Good physical fitness and ability to work under pressure, including during emergencies.

  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and inspection procedures.

  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in emergency situations.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Reliability, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays when required.
