Currently, we work with pastoralist, agropastoral, pastoral dropouts, rural small holder farmers, rural/urban youth and street children to respond to humanitarian crises and build resilience in Ethiopia working closely with local communities, local government, donors and other key actors. GOAL E Humanitarian Response is centered on nutrition, WASH, livelihoods, multipurpose cash, NFIs and protection interventions in country wide while the recovery and development focus on livelihoods, economic opportunities, health, health and nutrition system strengthening and WASH with solid emphasis on integrated programming and community-based approach in Amhara regional state. The Street Children programme is implemented with local partners in Addis Ababa and Hawassa.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLE
The Assistant Health and Nutrition Officer will support the implementation of both health and nutrition interventions in the refugee operation. This includes assisting Nutrition Officers in CMAM, BSFP, IYCF, GMP, MAMI and other nutrition services, as well as supporting Primary Health Care (PHC) activities, health promotion, disease surveillance, referral linkage, and community-based health education. The position ensures quality service delivery, accurate documentation, and effective support to COAs, incentive workers, and beneficiaries.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY/DUTIES (detailed list of tasks and outputs categorized by “daily” “weekly” “monthly” or any other category which fits the role)
A. Nutrition-Specific Responsibilities
Support Nutrition Officers in recording all programme and beneficiary-related information in CMAM, BSFP, IYCF, GMP, and MAMI services.
Conduct anthropometric measurements for children aged 0–59 months, PLW, elderly and other vulnerable groups.
Properly document admission, discharge, ration cards, and register books for TSFP/OTP/BSFP.
Identify and report absentees, defaulters, static weight and weight-loss cases.
Ensure consistent nutrition messaging is provided to mothers/caregivers.
Distribute the correct food rations in line with National, UNHCR and WFP guidelines.
Conduct monthly two-step, MUAC and mass screenings at community and facility levels.
Support IYCF-E counselling, mother-to-mother support groups and sensitization campaigns.
Attend daily/weekly schedules in SC, OTP, BSFP and TSFP centres.
Maintain all anthropometric tools and ensure proper usage.
Assist translation and communication during assessments, counselling and community visits.
Provide feedback to Nutrition Officer and Project Manager on programme progress.
B. Health Intervention
Assist health staff in delivering basic curative and preventive services at the health post/mobile clinics.
Support triage, vital signs measurement, patient registration and crowd management during busy periods.
Facilitate health education sessions on communicable diseases, hygiene, malaria, diarrheal diseases, respiratory infections, and maternal health.
Assist with early detection, reporting, and referral of epidemic-prone diseases (measles, AWD, malaria, etc.).
Participate in weekly surveillance meetings and ensure timely submission of health data to supervisors.
Support the referral of critically ill patients from the community to health facilities ensuring documentation, follow-up and feedback loops.
Coordinate with ambulance services, health posts, and PHCCs as needed.
Conduct community awareness sessions on key public health topics
Provide coaching, mentoring and onsite technical support to COAs in both health and nutrition tasks.
Participate in planning and conducting health promotion campaigns within refugee and host communities.
Monitor availability of medicines, PHC supplies, and equipment at service delivery points.
Report stock-outs or gaps to the Nutrition Officer/Project Manager.
Accompany case workers for home visits and follow-up on medical and nutrition-related cases.
Identify vulnerable individuals and refer them to relevant health, nutrition, MHPSS or protection services.
Ensure respect, dignity, and privacy of beneficiaries at all times.
Mainstreaming Issues:
The employee must read, understand and implement, according to area of responsibility,
GOAL’s policies and Procedures on mainstreaming of Gender, HIV/AIDS and Child Protection.
Work on increasing the sensitivity and awareness of community towards Gender, HIV/AIDS and Child Protection issues
Compliance Issues:
Familiarize self and understand to GOAL Donor Compliance issues, specifically to the terms.

Job Requirements

Diploma in Nursing, with minimum 3 years of experience of emergency health and Nutrition intervention or zero experience for 1st degree holder. COC is Mandatory,
Knowledge of the local language of the area is highly advantageous
