Addis Ababa University, Institute of Biotechnology (IOB) is seeking to fill the Assistant Professor vacancy indicated below. 

Qualification

• PhD in Bioinformatics or MSc in Bioinformatics and PhD in molecular life science with applications of diverse bioinformatics tools

Work Experience 

• An assistant professor should have at least 4 years of research and teaching experience at undergraduate and graduate levels in the specialization area requested. The candidate should have research experience in the specialization area requested as manifested by the research projects he/she has participated or led and articles published in reputable peer reviewed journals in the specialty areas requested.
• An Associate professor is expected to have at least 4 years of service after completing PhD in teaching and advising MSc and PhD students in the area requested. The candidate should also have a solid research Selection) or Molecular experience as manifested by the research projects he/she has participated or led and articles published in reputable per reviewed journals in the specialty areas requested.

For both ranks, the candidate should have documented experience in applications of diverse bioinformatics tools like:

• Proficiency using at least one or two of the programming languages, usually Python, Perl, or R.
• Strong statistics background
• Reasonably familiarity with the biological background of the associated research topic
• Reasonable history of data mining/wrangling
• Experience with high throughput data analysis
• Experience with databases/SQL/PostgreSQL/MySQL
• History of pipeline use and development
• Strong grasp of machine learning algorithms
• Unix Shell, many toolkits are bash command based.
• Be familiar with many of the toolkits available in the NGS pipeline including alignment, assembly, and variant calling.
• Be familiar with many of the databases available.
