Organization: Armauer Hansen Research Institute
The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI, https://ahri.gov.et) in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.
AHRI has six research directorates; Biotechnology, Bacterial/viral diseases, Tuberculosis/Leprosy, Non-communicable diseases, Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases, and Clinical Trial. AHRI, over its 50 years in service, is well known for its hub function for skill and technology transfer and partnership embracing research agendas with direct impact in the development and transformation of population in Ethiopia and beyond. With a grant obtained from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases Research Directorate (MNTD), is looking for self-driven, motivated and energetic researchers to join our team.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and test data modelling and design system, data management systems and procedures
Internal Database Administration (Developing Inventory Management System)
Maintain and manage access to study database and systems for all study personnel
Create and test data reports, databases, case report forms (CRFs), and related programs, technology, and support tools for efficient collection, analysis, and reporting
Maintain data integration and sharing, data mining and analysis and quality assurance to all MNTD projects/activities
Assisting the principal investigators in searches for new grant/project funding opportunities or calls, proposal write ups for grant applications
Preparing project-specific data collection instruments, data handling and sharing platforms
Organizing laboratory and field/entomology results and proper documentation/storage
Preparing data analysis plans and performing data analysis
Assisting the PIs in preparing draft manuscripts and following-up the process of publishing in scientific journals and keeping updated publication list by MNTD researchers
Handling Graduate students’ affairs (new and current) with Research Training Directorate
Liaison with national and international project partners in relation to project data
Maintaining up-to-date MNTD website
Perform other duties of the directorate as required
MSc Degree in Biomedical Science and other related fields from recognized institution
At least 5 years work experience
6 Publication points – Research Articles alone and/or in group.
Other Competencies
Ability to analyze and interpret data, determine implications, and provide recommendations
Demonstrated proficiency in electronic data capture software such as REDCap, R software, etc.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to problem-solve, work independently, adapt to constant change, take initiative, self-motivate, be flexible, and multi-task
Demonstrated ability to work independently, excellent communication (both written and verbal), interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Previous laboratory research experience with publication record
Demonstrated ability and experience in laboratory practices
