Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Audio Visual Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting audio, video, and lighting equipment. You will work closely with clients and event organizers to ensure high-quality production standards for meetings, conferences, live events, and presentations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Setup & Breakdown:

  • Transport, assemble, and disassemble AV equipment including microphones, sound speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, recording equipment, connecting wires and cables, and sound and mixing boards.

  • Ensure all equipment is installed according to safety standards and client specifications.

  • Manage cable management to ensure a safe and professional appearance.

2. Operation & Production:

  • Operate sound, lighting, and video equipment during live events, ensuring optimal quality.

  • Monitor live feeds and audio levels to prevent feedback or technical glitches.

  • Collaborate with event producers and speakers to facilitate smooth transitions and cueing.

  • Perform post-production editing of audio and video footage if required.

3. Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

  • Diagnose and resolve equipment issues quickly and effectively, often under time pressure.

  • Perform regular maintenance and cleaning of AV hardware.

  • Keep an organized inventory of equipment; recommend repairs or upgrades when necessary.

  • Coordinate with external vendors for equipment rentals or major repairs.

4. Client Support:

  • Provide technical instruction and support to staff, clients, or guests using the AV equipment.

  • Conduct sound and video checks prior to events to ensure client satisfaction.

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Skills

Technical Requirements:

  • Audio: Proficiency with analogue and digital mixing consoles, wireless microphone systems, and signal flow.

  • Video: Experience with projection systems, video switchers, LED walls, and video conferencing platforms (Zoom, Teams, Webex).

  • Lighting: Basic understanding of lighting control surfaces, DMX cabling, and stage lighting techniques.

  • Cabling: Ability to solder and repair cables (XLR, HDMI, SDI, CAT5/6) is a plus.

Education & Experience:

  • College diploma, level 3 or valid certificate in Audio Visual Technology such as videography, photograph, audiovisual, cinematography, video editing or audio video or a related field preferred.

  • 2 years of experience in AV setup and operation.

  • Certifications such as videography and photograph are highly desirable.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Physical ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs) and stand for long periods.

Salary: As per as organizational scale

Duty station: Addis Ababa

Length of Contract: One-year contract period with possible extension based on performance and budget availability.
