Beza Posterity Development Organization (BPDO) is a leading civil society institution in Ethiopia, working to advance community well-being and prosperity through targeted interventions in public health, youth development, socioeconomic empowerment, safe migration, emergency response, and the mitigation of climate change and its impacts. With changing donor landscapes and increasing demand for evidence-based, community-driven solutions, the organization aims to enhance its resource mobilization and strategic growth capacity.
To support these efforts, the organization seeks a Business Development Advisor who will lead funding acquisition, partnership building, and strategic positioning across Organizational thematic portfolios. The Advisor will play a central role in exploring funding opportunities, building partnerships and networking, expanding the organization’s impact and sustainability.To maintain our resource mobilization and secure funding opportunities, we would like to hire a potential business development advisor as per the details below details

Lead on business development and partnership activities, including design or adaptation of necessary systems in the Organization, conduct research; complete or coordinate needs-assessments based on existing gapscomplete or coordinate concepts and proposals.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

 Identify funding opportunities in the sectors of health (SRH, MNCH, HIV/AIDS, WASH, NCDs), youth empowerment, livelihoods and economic inclusion, climate change, and migration (safe migration, reintegration, anti-trafficking). The candidate is also expected to act as the motor for concept and idea generation in business idea development and support the executive director in synthesizing and communicating organizational goals.
A.    Resource mobilization

  • Lead the preparation of high-quality proposals and concept notes tailored to donor priorities and thematic trends.

  • Maintain and manage a funding pipeline, donor calendar, and call-for-proposal tracking system.

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams (programs, MEAL, finance and HR, and logistics) to develop technically sound, competitive submissions.

  • Support the development of innovative and sustainable financing models, such as social enterprises, related to thematic areas.

Collaborate with corporates and private companies to discharge their social responsibilities.

Partnership and external engagement

  • Build strong, strategic partnerships with donors, INGOs, CSOs, networks, government stakeholders, and private sector actors within the thematic perspective

  •  Represent the organization in technical working groups, cluster meetings, donor briefings, and sector platforms.

  • Strengthen visibility of the organization’s thematic expertise through networking, presentations, and joint initiatives.

  • Facilitate consortium-building for multi-sector proposals involving health, youth, livelihoods, Climate impact mitigation, or migration.

  • Develop partnership management guidelines to maintain existing partnerships and sustainably build new partnerships.

Strategic Positioning and Organizational Growth

  • Conduct donor landscape assessments in key thematic areas to identify trends, gaps, and strategic entry points.

  • Guide strategic planning processes and organizational positioning to ensure relevance in Ethiopia’s and the global evolving development context.

  • Advise leadership on emerging opportunities such as AI, digital health, youth innovation, skills development, returnee reintegration, and climate-livelihood intersections.

  • Support development of multi-year thematic strategies aligned with national priorities and international frameworks.

  • Train staff on proposal writing, donor engagement, and portfolio-specific technical requirements.

  • Develop internal knowledge resources such as capability statements for each thematic area, donor mapping tools, and standardized proposal templates.

  • Strengthen knowledge management systems to enhance institutional memory and business development efficiency.

  • Develop leaflets, brochures, newsletters, etc., to sell the reputation of the organization to external bodies

  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Person specification:   

  • Minimum 10-15 years of relevant professional experience in business development, donor relations, proposal writing, or program development within CSOs, INGOs, or development agencies.

  • Demonstrated experience of high-level leadership in health, youth development, livelihoods/economic empowerment, or migration and climate impact mitigation portfolios.

  • Strong understanding of Ethiopia’s development landscape, policy frameworks, and donor ecosystem (US FA, EU, FCDO, UN agencies, GIZ, SDC, foundations, etc.).

  • Experience in leading multi-sector proposal development processes involving cross-functional teams.

  • Prior involvement in consortium coordination or partnership management is highly desirable.

  • Experience in engaging government institutions such as the MoH, the MoWSA, the MoYSC, and the Refugees & Returnees Service (RRS) is an advantage.

 Education Required

  • A minimum of a master’s degree in business administration, public health, or development studies 

Additional skills& Competencies:

  • Excellent proposal writing, editing, and communication skills.

  • Strong understanding of technical frameworks in health, youth development, livelihoods, and migration.

  • Ability to analyze donor requirements, compliance standards, and funding trends.

  • Strong budget development skills in collaboration with finance teams.

  • Exceptional networking, partnership-building, and representation abilities.

  • Strong project design skills, including Theory of Change (ToCs), Log frames, and results-based management.

  • Ability to handle multiple deadlines, manage competing priorities, and work under pressure.

  • Proficiency in English; other local languages are an asset.

  • High ethical standards, cultural sensitivity, and commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.
