Digaf Micro-finance Institution is a registered financial service company determined to transform the way financial services are delivered to everyone. Digaf has been providing short and medium-term financing to individuals and small enterprises in Ethiopia for more than a decade. Digafs team is continuously looking for innovative, technology-based, and efficient means for clients to access financial solutions. The company therefore looks at different ways of serving individuals who are excluded from financial services with the knowledge and information they have readily available for a credit appraisal.

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) serves as the strategic leader for Digaf Microfinance's technology initiatives, overseeing the development, implementation, and management of all technological operations. The CTO will define a forward-looking technology strategy to enhance customer experience, ensure cybersecurity, and drive digital innovation. Key responsibilities include leading digital financial services (e.g., mobile wallets, digital lending, Insurtech), managing IT infrastructure, fostering innovation, and collaborating with stakeholders to align technology with business goals.

Key Responsibilities

1. Visionary Leadership & Strategy

  • Define and implement an enterprise-wide technology vision, integrating digital lending, Insurtech, mobile financial platforms, and automation.

  • Ensure innovation is embedded in the organization’s culture and that technology solutions align with business growth goals.

2. Digital Products & Platform Development

Lead the design and rollout of cutting-edge digital financial services, including:

  • Mobile/digital wallets and money platforms.

  • Digital card issuance and management systems.

  • Payment gateways and financial infrastructure.

  • Digital lending platforms (onboarding, decision-making, servicing).

  • Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) solutions.

  • AI-powered tools for credit risk, fraud prevention, and customer insights.

  • Insurtech platforms (embedded/standalone insurance products).

  • Digital learning systems for employee and client education.

3. Infrastructure, Cybersecurity & Performance

  • Ensure high availability, scalability, and security of all IT systems.

  • Maintain compliance, data integrity, and resilience against future demands.

4. Innovation & Continuous Learning

  • Champion a culture of experimentation and learning.

  • Evaluate emerging tech (AI, blockchain, cloud-native architecture) for competitive advantage.

5. Advisory & Strategic Input

  • Advise executives on technology investments and digital product strategies to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency.

6. Vendor & Relationship Management

  • Optimize partnerships with fintech vendors, core banking providers, and Insurtech firms.

7. Team Leadership & Development

  • Build and mentor a high-performing tech team with a focus on diversity, inclusion, and succession planning.

8. Partnerships & Collaboration

  • Work cross-functionally with risk, finance, operations, and compliance to deliver compliant, goal-driven solutions.

Job Requirements

Requirements*

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in technology and digital financial services.

  • 3+ years in a senior leadership role overseeing digital platform implementation.

  • Proven expertise in core banking systems, digital lending, Insurtech, and AI-driven solutions.

  • Strong knowledge of open banking APIs, cybersecurity, and fintech trends.
