Job description of CHILD PROTECTION & GENDER BASED VIOLENCE (CP&GBV) SOCIAL WORKER

Job Overview:

The Child Protection and Gender Base Violence (CP&GBV) social worker is responsible for overseeing the implementation of child protection in emergencies (CPiE) and GBV interventions at selected site in line with the CP & GBV in emergencies response plan. She/he will provide technical support to ensure quality implementation, standardization, monitoring and evaluation of all activities in relation to child protection and GBV.

Main responsibilities

The Child Protection and Gender Base Violence (CP&GBV) Social Worker shall:

1. Closely work with GGE Woreda Child protection and Gender Base Violence (CP&GBV) Protection officers, M&E officers, in collaboration with Woreda Child and Social Affairs (WCSA) staff and community case management workers and as part of the overall response plan implementation, and key program interventions.

2. Ensure that the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action and the Guideline for Gender Based Violence Interventions in Humanitarian Action are maintained at host community and IDP sites level.

3. Implement, follow up and report on the implementation of action plans agreed by community-based child protection mechanisms.

4. Provide guidance and support to community case management volunteers at selected host community and IDP site for the implementation of CPiE response interventions.

5. Provide guidance and technical support to community-based structures (CRCs/CCCs) and caregivers / parents and deployed case workers on emerging issues.

6. Regular update of the ongoing child protection situation and services in the host community and IDP sites and timely reporting to WCSA staff for the purpose of additional support and woreda level coordination.

7. Undertake proper recording and regular filing of documentation / reports of data collected at host community and IDP sites based on an agreed checklist as well as maintain the data protection protocol including confidentiality of data.

8. Promote engagement and participation of children in all services provided at the community-based child protection mechanisms.

9. Provide timely weekly, biweekly and monthly progress reports to GGE Woreda CP/GBV Protection officers (including 5Ws inputs by all partners) for consolidation and to share with the regional GGE team M&E Officer.

10. Provide on-site briefs for GGE-PIN ECHO donors, and other visitors as informed by GGE.

Job Requirements

Requirements / Qualifications:

1. Education to BSc/BA level in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Development Studies or similar or equivalent field experience.

2. One year and above work experience working in humanitarian programs / preferably with experience in child protection in emergencies interventions is encouraged.

3. Knowledge of established inter-agency standards and guidelines in child protection, such as the Inter-agency Guidelines on Separated and Unaccompanied Children, Child Friendly Spaces Handbook, the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action, and Guideline for Gender Based Violence Interventions in Humanitarian Action.

4. Experience in training and capacity building, particularly in strengthening various duty bearers' response to child protection.

5. Practical experience on Child Protection and Prevention Responses in Emergencies.

6. Experience in monitoring and evaluating child protection programs in emergencies, transition and development contexts is an asset.

7. Excellent writing skills in English language.

8. Excellent communication skills in the language of the duty station/Amharic/.

9. Willingness and commitment to deployment in remote areas of host community and IDP sites.

Job Requirements This role requires a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Development Studies, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
