HaHuJobs is seeking a dynamic and experienced Tutoring Officer for the STEM Education for Empowerment Project (STEEP) in Ethiopia. STEEP is an initiative led by Humber Polytechnic, Canada, with HaHuJobs as the implementing partner in Ethiopia. This project aims to provide gender-responsive training and support for adolescent girls pursuing studies and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). It will do so by supporting adolescent girls in school and out of school with the knowledge, skills, and support systems they need to pursue education and employment in the STEM sectors. The project is funded by the Government of Canada, through Global Affairs Canada, and the Barrett Family Foundation

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the implementation of STEM education training programs at assigned high schools, HaHuJobs training center, ensuring content is accessible, inclusive, and relevant to the target audience

  • Coordinate with schools, local community leaders, and youth center staff to organize and conduct training sessions to effectively deliver training to adolescent girls

  • Responsible for coordinating all project activities in all the schools they are assigned to manage. 

  • Facilitate hands-on STEM activities, workshops, and practical learning experiences for adolescent girls inside schools and outside of schools, and the HaHuJobs training center

  • Collaborate with the MEL officer to facilitate and implement M&E activities to document learnings

  • Monitor and evaluate the delivery of the tutoring program delivered in assigned high schools, and develop and maintain partnerships with local STEM professionals and industry partners to provide mentorship and career guidance, keeping up with current industry trends and needs

  • Responsible for collecting and encoding participant data on the M&E platform

  • Organize STEM-related events, competitions, and exhibitions to showcase participants' projects and achievements

  • Provide comprehensive support and guidance to participants, addressing their unique learning needs and challenges

  • Collaborate with the project team to integrate digital tools and technologies into the training programs

  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of participants, collecting data on program effectiveness and impact

  • Contribute to the development of success stories and case studies highlighting the achievements of out-of-school girls in STEM

  • Participate in community outreach activities to promote STEM education and recruit participants for the program

Job Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, development studies in the STEM field, or a project management-related discipline

  • Experience: 3 years of experience in education or training, preferably with a focus on STEM subjects for in-school youth

Required Skills:

  • Ability to teach emerging technologies to young learners

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute interactive events 

  • Excellent understanding of gender issues in education and STEM fields

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse groups of learners

  • Fluency in English and Amharic; knowledge of other local languages is an asset

  • Proficiency in using educational technologies and digital learning tools

  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively in diverse communities

  • Creativity and adaptability in addressing challenges faced by in-school adolescent girls
