HaHuJobs is seeking a visionary and experienced communications and relations officer to participate in the STEM Education for Empowerment Project (STEEP) in Ethiopia. STEEP is an initiative led by Humber International Development Institute with funding from the Government of Canada, through Global Affairs Canada, and The Barrett Family Foundation. The project is being implemented in partnership with HaHuJobs in Ethiopia and CAP - Youth Empowerment Institute in Kenya. This women-led initiative aims to provide gender-responsive training and support for adolescent girls pursuing studies and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The Project Lead will drive the project's strategic direction and overall implementation, which aims to empower over 15,000 girls over the next three years through secondary schools and HaHuJobs employment center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy for the STEEP project

• Coordinate and organize project events, including workshops, conferences, and community outreach activities

• Create compelling content for various platforms including social media, Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) materials as needed, and for different outreach events

• Manage relationships with media outlets, community partners, and other key stakeholders

• Develop and maintain project branding guidelines to ensure consistent messaging across all communications

• Collaborate with the project team to gather success stories and impact data for promotional materials

• Manage the project's social media presence and engage with the online community

• Prepare briefing materials, presentations, and reports for internal and external stakeholders

• Act as a liaison between the project team and external partners, including government agencies and NGOs

• Ensure all communication materials are culturally sensitive and gender-responsive

Job Requirements:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, International Relations, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field

• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in international relations, communications or public relations, preferably in the non-profit or international development sector

• Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt content for various audiences and platforms

• Strong understanding of gender issues in education and STEM fields

• Proficiency in social media management and digital communication tools

• Experience in organizing events and managing stakeholder relationships

• Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills

• Fluency in English and Amharic; knowledge of other local languages is an asset

• Demonstrated commitment to advancing women's participation in STEM fields

• Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities

Additional Details:

• This position is based in Ethiopia with frequent visits to project locations throughout Addis Ababa.

• The successful candidate will work closely with STEEP's International Project Lead in Humber College's International Development Institute (IDI) and local implementing partners in Addis Ababa.
