About the Position:
The Communications Officer will support the implementation of GOAL Ethiopia’s communications strategy by documenting programme activities, producing high-quality communication materials, and strengthening the organization’s visibility among donors, partners, media, and the public.
Working closely with programme teams, the Communications Officer will capture stories of change, develop multimedia communication products, manage digital platforms, and ensure that GOAL Ethiopia’s work is communicated accurately, ethically, and in line with donor visibility requirements and GOAL’s global communication standards.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY/DUTIES
Content Development and Storytelling
Develop high-quality communication materials including human-interest stories, case studies, articles, blog posts, and success stories.
Produce multimedia content such as photography, short videos, and photo essays that highlight programme impact.
Identify compelling stories from programme sites and document beneficiary experiences.
Field Documentation
Conduct regular field visits to programme locations to collect stories, photographs, and video content.
Interview programme participants, community members, and staff to capture programme impact.
Ensure ethical storytelling practices and obtain informed consent during documentation.
Digital and Social Media Management
Manage GOAL Ethiopia’s digital platforms, including social media accounts and website updates.
Develop engaging digital content to increase public awareness and engagement.
Monitor social media performance and prepare periodic analytics reports.
Donor Visibility and Communications Support
Ensure communication materials comply with donor branding and visibility requirements.
Support the development of communication content for donor reports, presentations, and proposals.
Coordinate with programme teams to ensure timely documentation of programme achievements.
Media Engagement
Support media outreach efforts including drafting press releases and media advisories.
Coordinate media interviews and field visits.
Maintain relationships with relevant national media outlets.
Internal Communications
Support internal communication initiatives including newsletters, updates, and internal publications.
Document and share programme highlights and key organizational achievements with staff.
Event and Campaign Support
Support communication activities for international observances, campaigns, and project events.
Ensure events receive appropriate media and digital coverage.

Job Requirements

Education
Minimum bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, or a related field.
Experience
Minimum of 4–5 years of professional experience in communications, media, or public relations.
Experience working with INGOs, humanitarian organizations, or development programmes is highly desirable.
Skills and Competencies
Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills in English.
Strong photography and videography skills.
Experience managing social media platforms and digital content.
Ability to translate complex programme information into engaging communication products.
Knowledge of graphic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is an advantage.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
