About MAG:
MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.
MAG is registered and accredited as a humanitarian mine action NGO in Ethiopia and is in the process of establishing a country office and operations focused on responding to the threat posed by explosive ordnance contamination in northern Ethiopia. Initial planned programming will focus on the delivery of Explosive Ordnance Risk Education, working with local partners, and capacity support to national actors. Further scale-up and expansion of activities to encompass survey and clearance operations is anticipated over the coming months.
About the role:
The Community Liaison Supervisor (CLS) is responsible for the overall planning, supervision, coordination, quality assurance and performance management of Community Liaison Teams implementing humanitarian mine action activities in Ethiopia.
The post holder provides operational leadership and technical supervision to Community Liaison Team Leaders and Community Liaison Officers, ensuring that Community Liaison (CL), Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE), Explosive Hazard Awareness Training (EHAT), Community Focal Point (CFP) development, Non-Technical Survey (NTS), Explosive Ordnance (EO) Contamination Assessments, hazard marking, referral, information management and reporting activities are delivered safely, efficiently and to a consistently high standard.
The Community Liaison Supervisor is responsible for ensuring compliance with MAG policies and procedures, International Mine Action Standards (IMAS), Ethiopian National Mine Action Standards (NMAS), donor requirements and national coordination mechanisms, while promoting continuous improvement, accountability and community-centred programming.
Job Requirements
About you:
The successful candidate will be required to have:
University degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Geography, Education, International Development or a related discipline.
At least three years of experience in humanitarian programming, Community Liaison or community engagement.
At least two years' supervisory experience managing field teams.
Experience delivering or supervising EORE.
Experience conducting NTS or community assessments.
Good understanding of International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) and Ethiopian National Mine Action Standards (NMAS).
Experience with digital data collection systems.
Strong planning and organisational skills.
Excellent report-writing skills.
Good English and Amharic.
Desirable:
Humanitarian mine action experience.
Experience delivering EHAT.
Experience managing Community Focal Point networks.
Experience with Survey123, Kobo or GIS.
Knowledge of Tigrinya and/or Afaan Oromo.
Driving licence.
