JOB SUMMARY 

The Community Mobilizer will support the implementation of CMAM activities—specifically TSFP, OTP referrals, IYCF promotion, and community outreach—in Asayita woreda. The role focuses on community engagement, active case finding, supporting HEWs and health facilities, and mobilizing caregivers to ensure timely identification, referral, and follow-up of malnourished children and PLW. The mobilizer will work closely with Samaritan’s Purse Nutrition Officers, HEWs, health facility staff, and community leaders to strengthen early detection of malnutrition, promote health seeking behavior, and support behavior change activities including MtMSGs and Family MUAC.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Conduct active case finding for MAM and SAM through home visits, community screening, and Family MUAC support.

  • Mobilize mothers/caregivers to attend TSFP/OTP services and bi‑weekly follow‑up sessions.

  • Support HEWs in community-level MUAC screening and referral of CU5 and PLW.

  • Identify and refer children with complications to the nearest health facility for OTP/SC services.

  • Assist Nutrition Officers and HEWs during TSFP distribution days at health posts.

  • Help manage crowd control, beneficiary flow, and registration during TSFP sessions.

  • Support follow-up of beneficiaries who miss appointments or default from the program.

  • Facilitate communication between community members and health facilities to ensure timely treatment.

  • Work closely with HEWs, health post staff, and community leaders to strengthen CMAM service uptake.

  • Participate in joint supervision visits with Samaritan’s Purse nutrition staff.

  • Support the verification of identified MAM cases through community structures and health records.

  • Assist in the formation and facilitation of Mother-to-Mother Support Groups (MtMSGs).

  • Support Leader Mothers in delivering IYCF and nutrition education sessions.

  • Promote positive health and nutrition practices, including early care-seeking and hygiene behaviors.

  • Participate in trainings on CMAM, IYCF, anthropometric screening, and community mobilization.

  • Reinforce key messages learned during trainings when engaging with households and community groups.

  • Support HEWs in implementing community-based early warning and nutrition surveillance.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE NEEDED

  • Diploma in Social Sciences

  • 2 years of prior learning experience in community based, Government, NGO, INGO set ups.

  • Resident of the local community (Afar/Asayita) with strong community acceptance.

LANGUAGE 

  • Proficiency in English and Amharic

  • Knowledge of the regional language required

  • Knowledge of any other national language is a plus

  • Ability to travel within kebeles and conduct regular home visits.

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.
