BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

The cook will be responsible for preparing meals for the family and guests, responsible for planning and preparing food for representational events, parties, holiday meals, luncheons, special functions, and other social events as needed. He/she will manage the operations of the kitchens in collaboration with the House Manager. The cook will report to the House Manager

Job Requirement

  1. Required Education: Certificate in food preparation and beverage or catering service is required.

  2. Required Experience: At least 4 years of progressively responsible work experience as a cook/chef in any embassy or diplomatic mission and foreign nationals’ residences is required.

  3. Language Requirement: Excellent skills in speaking, writing, and listening English and Amharic are required. (This may be tested)

  4. Skills and Abilities: Ability to create a pleasant dining experience by having excellent culinary service skills. Be well organized and able to complete kitchen duties independently. (This may be tested) Be adaptable to a frequently changing schedule.

Note: A non-citizen of the host country applicant (including a U.S. citizen or a third-country national) who is locally resident must have the required work/resident permit to be eligible for consideration.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Fixed term contract until the employer permanently departs post or until one-month prior notice is provided by either the employer or the employee or the employee is dismissed for cause.

EMPLOYER: The U.S. Embassy USAU Mission Deputy Chief of Mission; not the U.S. Embassy. As a personal employee of the USAU Deputy Chief of Mission the terms and conditions provided for the U.S. Government employees don’t govern this employment.

Probationary Period – 60 workdays
