Contract Type: Full-time (60-day probation period as per HR Manual)

The German Speaking Evangelical Church in Ethiopia established the German Church School (GCS) in 1972 in Addis Ababa close to Siddist Kilo. The school provides quality education and holistic support to approximately 300 children from economically disadvantaged families, including students with disabilities. As part of its student support services, the school operates a feeding program that provides nutritious meals to students, for which a bakery and a new school kitchen have been constructed. To strengthen this important service, GCS is seeking a dedicated, experienced, and responsible Cook who is passionate about preparing healthy meals and maintaining high standards of hygiene, food safety, and cleanliness.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Preparing and cooking meals according to the school's menu and nutritional guidelines. Supervising meal planning and food preparation activities as required.
• Ensuring that all food is prepared and distributed in a hygienic and safe manner, adhering to health, safety, and sanitation regulations and standards, maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of the kitchen and the bakery, cooking utensils, equipment, and storage areas.
• Monitoring food supplies, its purchase and ensuring the safe and hygienic storage of food items to prevent spoilage and contamination.
• Working in close cooperation with the kitchen and bakery staff and supervising its work.
• Performing other related duties assigned by the administration.

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

• A minimum of a Certificate in Food Preparation, Catering, Bakery, and other food preparation operations or related fields from a recognized TVET institution or accredited training center.
• Proven work experience as a cook, preferably in a schools, hotel, restaurant, cafeteria, or institutional kitchen.
• Training in bakery work, and experience in the preparation of baked food products such as various breads, pastries, cakes, biscuits, or other bakery items is an important asset.
• Excellent knowledge of food preparation techniques, nutrition, hygiene, and sanitation standards for both kitchen and bakery.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Good physical health and ability to perform kitchen and bakery related duties for extended periods.
• Strong sense of responsibility, punctuality, reliability, and cleanliness.
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe and child-friendly environment.
