Location: Addis Ababa, with domestic travel as needed (especially for pending court litigation and regional transactions)

Role Summary 

We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join our legal team and provide strategic, commercially focused legal support across the Group’s companies and business units. The role will advise on a broad range of corporate, commercial, employment, tax, regulatory, compliance, and dispute resolution matters, ensuring that the Group’s business activities are conducted in accordance with applicable Ethiopian laws and regulations. 

Job Requirements

 Education & Professional Qualifications 

  • Degree: Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) from an accredited university; 

Experience  

  • Minimum of 4–7 years of relevant legal experience, with substantial focus on corporate/commercial advisory, in-house practice, or transactional law firm engagements 

Technical Legal Competencies 

  • Mastery of the Ethiopian Labor Law, Tax Laws, Company Law, Commercial Code, Civil Code, and related investment legislation,  

  • Proven experience drafting board resolutions, minutes, constitutive document amendments, shareholder agreements, and managing proxy/voting structures. 

  • End-to-end management of commercial agreements (leases, procurement, service level agreements, loan instruments, sales, security/pledge agreements, and IP assignments). 

  • Strong operational understanding of Ethiopian labor proclamations, collective agreements, workplace disputes, and tax litigation/compliance fundamentals. 

Language Proficiency 

  • Full professional fluency in written and spoken English, Amharic, and Afan Oromo  

  • Ability to draft legal opinions, contracts, and briefs with precision in Amharic, Afan Oromo and English. 

Competencies & Soft Skills 

  • Ability to propose practical, legally sound solutions that balance regulatory risk against operational and business objectives. 

  • Sharp statutory interpretation skills and command of binding judicial precedents from the Federal Supreme Court Cassation Division. 

  • Executive-level presence capable of translating technical legal concepts into actionable advice for C-suite leaders and boards. 

  • High level of professional integrity, strict handling of privileged data, and capacity to deliver under pressure across competing deadlines.
