Background

Esurv Consults is a local Development Consulting Firm based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Esurv provides high-quality technical support services for a variety of institutions working across a broad range of development sectors. We specialize in conducting large-scale surveys and studies and designing monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems. Our rigorous impact evaluation studies are tailored and responsive to the research need at hand. We help our clients to maximize the accuracy and reliability of the information that supports their programs, carrying out qualitative and quantitative research, designing different forms of monitoring and evaluation systems, and providing extensive capacity building and logistical support.

Esurv is currently conducting variety of surveys on social cohesion, urban planning, and on primary education sector, to name some. For successful accomplishment of these projects Esurv would like to hire 15 experienced data collectors in Addis Ababa, Amhara and Oromia regions.

Description of Role:

Under the Principal investigator, the data collector will execute the following activities: –

  • Attend the data collectors training
  • Prepare micro plans in order to conduct the data collection including logistics for the data collection
  • Communicate Esurv Consults coordinators in order to assist the movement in different parts of Addis Ababa
  • Apply sampling procedure to in the selected study cluster
  • Complete household questionnaire using mobile data collection application for all the household holds under the data collector’s responsibility
  • Work with data collection supervisor in order to maintain quality of the data before submitting the data to cloud server

Working Period and Rate

  • Esurv anticipates that the approximate level of effort required from the data collectors for these projects will be between 15-20 work days per enumerator. Depending on the performance of the data collector, there is a huge possibility to work in other projects with Esurv. Payment will be corresponding with experience of the enumerator. Work is expected to take place as immediate as possible.

Enumerator Background and Skill

  • Good personal skills. Enumerators must be able to interact with people from a variety of backgrounds, and explain the survey to the research participants who are not familiar with the study.
  • Strong technology skills. Enumerators will use tablets to locate households, record GPS coordinates, and enter household responses.
  • Attention to detail. Enumerators will be required to carefully follow instructions relating to the selection of respondents and recording of responses.
  • Personal transport (car or motorcycle) available for duration of work. Travel costs will be reimbursed.
  • Available to work full-time 5-6 days of the week during survey.
  • •Knowledge of Tigrigna and/or Afan Oromo is a plus. However, knowledge of English and Amharic is compulsory.

Enumerators should have the following background:

  • University degree in Business, Economics, Social Sciences, Statistics and related fields
  • Fluent English and Amharic is required
  • Afan Oromo and Tigrigna language knowledge are given priorities
  • Prior experience with data collection preferred
  • Interest in development and economic integration is preferred
