Ohio State Global One Health is an affiliated entity of The Ohio State University working on a range of Global Health Security related projects targeting rapid response to public health emergencies through building laboratory, surveillance, and one health workforce capacity strengthening through applied education, training, and research throughout Ethiopia. Ohio State Global One Health works with the Federal Ministry of Health, Ethiopian Public Health Institute, Regional Health Bureaus, Universities and other Federal and Regional institutions.                                                                                                                                   

Job Summary                                                                                                                                             

Ohio State Global One Health is seeking to hire a skilled Data Manager for a Global Health Security Cooperative Agreement to serve as a consultant for a period of five months. The Data Manager is expected to have a strong expertise in developing data collection tools using ODK and proficiency in R programming for data cleaning, management, and statistical analysis. The Data Manager will work with complex datasets to ensure data quality and generate evidence to support project objectives.

Employment type – Full-time consultancy contract for 5 Months (May 1 – September 30, 2026. 

Line of responsibility - The incumbent will report to the Senior Data Manager 

Place of work:  Addis Ababa to be seconded to Ethiopian Public Health Institute

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement data collection tools using ODK.

  • Perform data cleaning, including handling missing data, identifying inconsistencies, and recording variables using R.

  • Manage and transform raw datasets into analysis-ready formats.

  • Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) and generate descriptive statistics.

  • Apply appropriate statistical methods aligned with study objectives.

  • Document data cleaning and analysis workflows using reproducible R scripts and markdown reports.

  • Work under the guidance of the Senior Data Manager and collaborate with project teams to ensure data integrity.

  • Prepare analytical summaries, tables, and visualizations for reporting purposes.

  • Ensure adherence to data privacy, security, and ethical standards.

  • Perform additional tasks related to data management as assigned by supervisors 

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in developing data collection tools using ODK.

  • Demonstrated experience in data cleaning and analysis using R.

  • Experience in sero-survey or similar epidemiological studies is an advantage.

  • Proficiency in R packages such as dplyr, tidyr, ggplot2, readr, and haven.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience working with large or complex datasets.

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
