Job Summary:

To administer and manage the core database activities to ensure the availability, performance, security and integrity of the Shabelle bank’s database systems. The administrator will design, implement and maintain scalable database architectures, enforce best practices for backup, recovery and capacity planning, and drive automation and standardization across environments. Through close collaboration with System Administration, IT operations, security, application development and business stakeholders, the role will minimize system risk, optimise performance, ensure compliance with policies, regulatory requirements and delivering measurable improvements in reliability and operational efficiency.

Job Requirements

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or with related field of study

• Professional certifications such as Database administration certificates, Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, or similar are highly desirable

Experience:

• 1-3 years of Database administration experience

Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Develop, implement, and administer the day-to-day activities of the database management strategy to ensure optimal performance, security, and availability of all database systems within the Bank

• Design and architecture of database solutions, ensuring they align with business requirements and technical specifications.

• Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies to optimize query performance and resource utilization.

• Analyze and resolve performance-related issues proactively to ensure high availability of database services.

• Ensure the security of database systems by implementing access controls, encryption, and data protection measures.

• Establish and maintain robust backup and recovery procedures to prevent data loss and ensure business continuity.

• Conduct regular testing of backup and recovery processes to validate their effectiveness.

• Work closely with IT teams, business units, and external vendors to ensure the seamless integration of database solutions into the overall IT infrastructure.

• Collaborate with application development teams to design efficient database schemas.

• Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
