The Database Expert is expected to play a crucial role in implementing the high availability architecture (HAA), backup, restore and recovery procedures, ensuring performance and security of the overall databases of the company to support high-performance applications and data-driven decision-making. He will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including DevOps, software engineers, network engineers, security team, designers, data analysts, data science, AI, and all relevant stakeholders to deliver the required efficiency as well as accountability.

The Database Expert is responsible for managing a highly available database systems tailored to meet both current and anticipated business needs, taking and validating backups, monitoring the backups, and testing restore and recovery on regular basis. Specific responsibilities for the Database Expert will include, but are not limited to, the following core activities:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Installation, creation and configuration of new databases (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc..) for testing, staging and production.

  • Implementing high availability architecture (HAA) through replication.

  • Ensuring High Availability through managing and monitoring of the functionality and status of data guard environments.

  • Performing database migrations when there is a need to do so. 

  • Regurlay checking the security of the databases by running DBSAT (Database Security Assessment Tool) and implementing database auditing. 

  • Generating AWR and ADDM reports & implementing recommendations.

  • Implement and monitor database access management for the platform users and services. 

  • Maintain data integrity and security (manage roles and permissions of database users). 

  • Configuring logical & physical backups using respective utilities. 

  • Develop and test robust disaster recovery and backup plans, ensuring rapid data restoration and minimal downtime in the event of data loss. 

  • Implement advanced tuning strategies, including indexing, partitioning, and query optimization, to improve responsiveness and maximize throughput across database
    systems. 

  • Analyze database usage and performance trends to guide capacity planning, ensuring resources are allocated to meet growth and operational needs.

  • Establish and enforce database security policies to ensure compliance with organizational IS policy and protect sensitive data from unauthorized access. 

  • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments, implementing proactive remediation strategies to mitigate potential risks. 

  • Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to integrate database systems effectively. 

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of installations, configurations, incident resolutions, contributing to a knowledge base that aids in skill development and knowledge transfer.

  • Providing full database support when required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 

  • 5+ years (for Masters) and 11+ years (for Bachelors) of experience in database administration and management of data infrastructure with expertise in large-scale, highavailability systems, backup and restore, database security, and advanced performance tuning. 

  • Proficiency in database platforms (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, SQL Server) and performance optimization techniques (e.g., indexing, partitioning, query optimization). 

  • Strong knowledge of relational databases, concepts, and technologies.

  • Strong Experience in Data Profiling, enrichment and synchronization using Data Management tools. 

  • Strong understanding of database structures, theories11, principles, practices, data security, compliance requirements and frameworks (PCIDSS, SOC2 Type 2 and ISO 27001), and disaster recovery planning. 

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders. 

  • Relevant certifications such as Oracle Certifications (OCA, OCP), PostgreSQL Certification, or MySQL Certifications. 

  • Knowledge of cloud computing is a plus.
