Duties and Responsibilities
Performing the tasks of transporting authorized goods and passengers in an MSF vehicle, ensuring its technical and safety conditions and respecting the country's traffic rules and MSF security rules, in order to provide a safe, smooth and efficient service.
Checking daily, the technical conditions of the assigned vehicle (state of the tires, oil, fuel, brakes, radio equipment, spare parts, etc.), performing weekly check according to the MSF Logbook, refilling it when necessary, and keeping it clean to ensure it can be driven in perfect conditions. Carrying out a hand over if another uses the vehicle
Ensuring the security of passengers in the vehicle, driving carefully, observing speed limits and traffic rules in the country as well as MSF security rules, in order to avoid car accidents.
Ensuring all passengers have all necessary papers in order before travelling, and ensuring non MSF staff sign disclaimers of responsibility before using the vehicle
Ensuring correct loading and unloading of the vehicle, submitting the documents to the receiver of the goods, checking the status of delivered goods, returning the duly completed documents to Logistics and ensuring that the goods have the necessary documents
Ensuring that all vehicle documents and the driver's driving license are valid and in the vehicle.
Informing the line manager of any incident involving the transportation of passengers and/or goods.
Knowing how to use all types of radios, codes, call numbers and radio alphabets by heart and communicating with base according to MSF communications policy to inform the driver's position and any potential implications.
Knowing and respecting the security rules related to vehicle movements, specifically those related to customs, checkpoints and roadblocks. Ensuring all passengers know and respect the security rules.
Ensure safe and timely transport of MSF staff, visitors, goods, medical supplies, equipment, and logistical materials mainly within Addis Ababa, with occasional support to field movements when required.
Have a strong knowledge of Addis Ababa roads, traffic constraints, and access routes, and be able to select practical and safe routes.
To support movements in Addis Ababa and during field travel, need to be able to read a map and use GPS applications or devices
Support airport pick-up and drop-off, office movements, administrative follow-up, and transport of materials linked to mission activities.
Ensure the assigned vehicle is always ready for movement, including fuel, cleanliness, required documents, spare wheel, tools, communication means, and other mandatory safety items.
Carry out basic vehicle checks and minor troubleshooting, identify common mechanical problems, and have a basic knowledge of vehicle spare parts in order to alert the logistics team or supervisor quickly and accurately when repair or replacement is needed.
Respect all MSF security and movement procedures, both in Addis Ababa and during occasional field movements, including communication follow-up and movement validation when required.
Support the safe loading, transport, and unloading of goods, ensuring proper care of items and correct use of transport documents.
Be able to adapt to changing priorities and work in a challenging and sometimes unpredictable environment.
Be available to work on day or evening shift, on weekdays and weekends, depending on the roster and operational needs.
Immediately report any accident, breakdown, incident, security concern, or unusual event during movement.
Ensure proper completion of logbook, fuel follow-up, and basic vehicle monitoring documents.
Maintain a professional attitude, discretion, and confidentiality at all times when transporting staff, visitors, or materials.
Use basic English in the working environment when needed, especially for simple communication with international staff, understanding common instructions, and following operational information related to movements.
