Engagement of CPD Centers for Delivery of Training on Healthy Ageing and Older Person Care

1. Background and Introduction

HelpAge Ethiopia, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health (MoH), is working to strengthen the health system’s capacity to respond to the needs of the growing older population in Ethiopia. With increasing life expectancy and a rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), there is a need to transition toward integrated, person-centered, and age-responsive care.

To support this, a standardized Healthy Ageing and Older Person Care training package has been developed and approved under the national Continuous Professional Development (CPD) framework. The training focuses on key areas such as comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA), multidisciplinary care, management of common geriatric syndromes, and ethical, rights-based care.

The training is designed as a five-day competency-based program targeting multidisciplinary healthcare workers delivering services in one-stop geriatric centers and related settings.

2. Purpose 

To engage accredited CPD Centers to host and facilitate the delivery of a 5-day training program for 30 health workers selected by MoH and HelpAge Ethiopia.

The CPD Centers will provide training facilities, participant services, and certification, while technical facilitation will be conducted by trainers from the Healthy Ageing Technical Working Group (TWG).

 

3. Objectives

  • Strengthen healthcare workers’ competencies in geriatric and integrated care 

  • Ensure standardized delivery of the nationally approved CPD training  

  • Provide a conducive learning environment and accredited certification 

4. Scope of Work

The selected CPD Center will be responsible for the following:

4.1 Training Coordination

  • Organize and host the 5-day in-person training in Addis Ababa 

  • Coordinate schedules in consultation with HelpAge Ethiopia and MoH 

  • Manage participant registration and daily attendance 

4.2 Venue and Facilities

  • Provide a suitable training hall with: 

    • Adequate seating for approximately 30 participants and trainers 

    • Audio-visual equipment (projector, screen, sound system) 

    • Flipcharts and necessary training materials support 

    • Reliable electricity and backup 

4.3 Participant Services

  • Provide daily refreshments, including: 

    • Morning and afternoon tea breaks 

    • Lunch for all training days 

  • Ensure a comfortable and accessible learning environment 

4.4 Training Support

  • Provide on-site support to TWG trainers 

  • Facilitate smooth delivery of sessions and logistics 

  • Support printing or distribution of training materials as needed 

4.5 Certification

  • Issue CPD-accredited certificates to participants who meet the requirements: 

    • Full attendance 

    • Minimum score of 70% in the post-training assessment 

4.6 Reporting

  • Submit a brief training completion report, including: 

    • Attendance records 

    • Summary of training delivery 

    • Photo documentation 

5. Training Overview

  • Participants: 30 multidisciplinary health workers selected by MoH and HelpAge Ethiopia 

  • Trainers: Members of the Healthy Ageing Technical Working Group (TWG) 

  • Duration: 5 consecutive days 

Training Content Includes:

  • Concepts of healthy ageing and WHO frameworks 

  • Physiological changes associated with ageing 

  • Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) 

  • Common geriatric syndromes 

  • Miscellaneous Issues in Older person care

6. Expected Deliverables

  • One fully completed 5-day training 

  • Daily attendance records 

  • CPD-accredited certificates issued 

  • Final training report submitted 

7. Timeline and Deadlines

  • Training must be completed by: April 30, 2026 

  • Reporting deadline: Within 5 days after completion of the training 

8. Technical Requirements

The CPD Center must:

  • Be accredited under the national CPD system 

  • Have adequate training facilities and logistical capacity 

  • Demonstrate experience in organizing similar health sector trainings  

 

9. Ethical and Quality Standards

  • Ensure an inclusive and respectful training environment 

  • Adhere to national CPD standards and guidelines 

  • Maintain professionalism in all aspects of service delivery
