The English Subject Teacher plays a key role in developing students’ literacy, communication, and critical thinking skills through dynamic, engaging, and standards-based instruction aligned with the British Curriculum.

The English Subject Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing English language and literature lessons according to Pearson Edexcel curriculum standards for the assigned key stage(s). This role emphasizes fostering reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through differentiated, student-centered teaching.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Delivery & Instruction

  • Plan and deliver comprehensive English lessons aligned with Pearson Edexcel curriculum expectations for the assigned key stage(s).

  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to develop students’ reading comprehension, writing proficiency, vocabulary, grammar, and oral communication.

  • Integrate literature, language arts, and media studies to provide a rich, diverse learning experience.

2. Assessment & Feedback

  • Design and implement formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress in all language domains.

  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student growth.

  • Analyze assessment data to inform instruction and tailor interventions as needed.

3. Classroom Management & Student Engagement

  • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation and critical thinking.

  • Establish clear behavioral and academic expectations.

  • Support students’ social-emotional development alongside academic skills.

4. Professional Collaboration & Development

  • Collaborate with Key Stage Coordinators, fellow English teachers, and support staff to ensure curriculum consistency and integration.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development focused on literacy instruction and curriculum updates.

  • Contribute to the development of teaching materials and school-wide literacy initiatives.

5. Communication & Reporting

  • Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities.

  • Prepare accurate and timely reports for school leadership and parents.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Linguistics, or a related field.

  • Teaching certification or diploma recognized by relevant educational authorities.

  • Minimum  3 years teaching experience in English, preferably within a British or international curriculum setting.

  • Solid understanding of Pearson Edexcel English curriculum and assessment criteria.

  • Skilled in differentiated instruction to meet diverse learner needs.

  • Proficient with educational technologies and digital literacy tools.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.

  • Fluency in English; Amharic language skills are an advantage
