To ensure the brewery operates in full compliance with environmental regulations and sustainability goals by managing environmental impacts related to water use, wastewater, energy, emissions, and solid waste. This role supports SHE programs and continuous improvements in alignment with Site QSHE Supervisor.
Duties & Responsibilities
Environmental Compliance
• Ensure full compliance with local and international environmental laws, permits, and standards (e.g., effluent discharge, emissions, waste disposal).
• Prepare and submit environmental reports to regulatory authorities
• Maintain environmental permits, licenses, and documentation
• Conduct internal environmental audits and support external inspections
• Maintain compiled environmental data (waste records) of the site
• Track the implementation of actions generated from ESMP, ESIA and ESPA.
• Identify environmental aspects and impacts of each process and define mitigation measuresWater & Wastewater Management
• Monitor water consumption efficiency across the plant
• Oversee wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) operations and performance
• Develop water conservation strategies and reuse systemsWaste Management & Air emission
• Manage solid and hazardous waste streams (Implement waste management plan of the company)
• Promote reuse, recycling, and waste-to-energy initiatives by embedding proper waste segregation culture.
• Coordinate with third-party waste handlers and recyclers
• Track and report waste generation and reduction KPIs
• Monitor emissions from boilers, generators, and other processes.
• Track energy usage (electricity, steam, fuel) and identify optimization opportunitiesSupport ISO 14001 Environmental Management System implementation and certification
Train employees in environmental policies and procedures, promote environmental awareness and sustainability culture across the plant.
SHE Activities
• Provide safety induction for employees and visitors in alignment with QSHE supervisor
• Conduct weekly and monthly safety inspections as per the direction of QSHE Supervisor
• Conduct toolbox sessions across departments as per schedule
• Do live audits related to PPE compliance, safe work permit and LOTO implementationsTo do site tour to check and correct unsafe conditions, unsafe behaviors and near misses’ and report the findings to concerned departments.
Ensure adherence of the company safety rules among contractors
Ensuring safe Vehicles/Trucks and FLT movement i.e. /make sure drivers took safety induction, Trucks pre-check inspection done, FLT daily inspection done as per the check list
Perform other duties as per the direction of QSHE Supervisor
Responsible to report problem(S) regarding the integrated management system such as on FSMS, QMS, EMS, and OHSMS to QSHE supervisor and/or his immediate supervisor
Job Requirements
Bachelors degrees in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related field.
The technical or function-specific work experience beyond the formal qualification necessary for the position
Basic knowledge of ESIA processes, ESMP development, and compliance monitoring.
Demonstrated knowledge of Ethiopian environmental laws and regulations
Familiarity with ISO 14001 and environmental auditing
