KNCV Ethiopia, a locally registered nonprofit organization is dedicated to the fight against Tuberculosis (TB) and related challenges in Ethiopia, aiming to support the country in achieving the ambitious global END TB Strategy with a vision to see Ethiopia free from TB and related challenges and a mission to aspires to reduce the burden caused by TB and related challenges through generating and implementing rigorous, innovative, evidence-based and people centered interventions and research
Background 
The RADxAR-TB Project aims to strengthen TB diagnostic services through the implementation of near Point-of-Care (nPOC) molecular testing, digital integration (PlusLife), and LabXpert connectivity. The project supports the Government of Ethiopia, the National Tuberculosis, Leprosy and other lund disease Program (NTBLLD Program), and the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) to optimize TB case detection, ensure quality diagnostic services, and strengthen laboratory systems, specimen referral, and data management across regional and facility levels.
 

Purpose of the position 

The felid coordinators provide technical leadership, coordination, monitoring, and supportive supervision for laboratory related activities under the RADxAR-TB Project at multi regional level. The position supports the implementation of quality nPOC TB diagnostic services, data collection and entry into digital platforms, basic equipment troubleshooting, laboratory safety, specimen referral systems for DST, mentorship, and quality assurance activities in collaboration with Regional Health Bureaus, regional laboratories, health facilities, EPHI, the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Laboratory Directorate (NTBLLD)/NTP, partners, and other stakeholders.
 

Organizational position 
The felid coordinators report functionally and technically to the Senior Laboratory Advisor and hierarchically to the Executive Director . The felid coordinators are part of the central project team and works closely with regional stakeholders.

Duties and responsibilities 
The Felid coordinators will:

  • Coordinate the project implementation at regional and facility level making sure that there is smooth project start up, implementation of the nPOC diagnostics resulting in improvement in  case finding  and treatment outcome .

  • Provide on-site technical assistance, daily operation guidance, and basic troubleshooting for nPOC PlusLife molecular testing equipment, escalating complex issues to senior staff.

  • Ensure strict adherence to national laboratory guidelines, SOPs, and quality standards for nPOC testing.

  • Facilitate and support accurate data entry, verification, recording, reporting and continuous integration of diagnostic results into PlusLife, LabXpert connectivity, and DHIS2 platforms.

  • Conduct on-the-job training, mentorship, and competency assessments for health facility staff on nPOC molecular testing, DR-TB diagnosis, biosafety protocols case finding and treatment outcome.

  • Perform regular onsite mentoring, and supportive supervision on how project activities are being implemented

  • Monitor laboratory performance indicators to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery. 

  • Support the implementation of internal quality control (IQC) and external quality assurance (EQA) activities.

  • Monitor specimen transportation and referral systems for Drug Susceptibility Testing (DST) in accordance with established SOPs.

  • Ensure accurate data recording, collection, reporting and documentation of all required data in the RADxAR-TB registry.

  • Establish a smooth and strong communication line between the laboratory professionals and the clinicians  to ensure smooth service delivery and cascade of care .

  • Prepare and submit routine activity reports and actively participate in regional technical meetings as assigned.

  • Work towards achieving the project target.

  • Ensure reports take place timely.

  • Undertake other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Working Conditions

  • Regular travel (up to 60%) to multi regional nPOC testing sites (health facilities), including remote or pastoralist areas.

  •  Field-based supportive supervision and on-site technical assistance activities.    

  • Working  environment may include variable infrastructure and limited connectivity in some regions.

Job Requirements

Who are we looking for
Education

  • BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology/Science/ and or BSc in other health related field is required. 

Knowledge/Experiences

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience on facilitating and coordinating TB laboratory related activities preferably in TB diagnostics or molecular testing and or TB, DR-TB and TB/HIV programs 

  • Proven experience in project coordination and management   in TB and related health program with evidence of successful accomplishment.   

  • Strong knowledge of TB molecular diagnostics (including nPOC and Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra technologies) and laboratory systems strengthening.

  • Proven experience in training, mentorship, supportive supervision, and laboratory quality management systems (SLMTA, ISO 15189).

  • Experience working with NGOs, government health systems, and multi- reginal and stakeholder partnerships experience is advantageous preferably on TB/HIV programme.

  • Experience and knowledge on digital data entry, laboratory information systems (LIS), or digital health platforms (PlusLife, COB tool, DHIS2) is advantageous.
