ABYS Trading PLC is the leading Manufacturing of agriculture products for local and export markets. It has been active since 2011 and exports over 40 high quality value added agricultural products which meet world relevant standards to three main destination countries such as America, Canada and Australia and other locations. Moreover, it distributed such products to local market. Nowadays, in line with government trade, marketing and development strategies, it strives to produce world class products of having high demand. This effort has allowed it to start to generate foreign currency and create job opportunity for 600 Ethiopian youths.
Now it is seeking a dynamic Food Scientist to manage the microbiological, physical and chemical properties of food and ingredients to make sure they are safe for ABAYS Trading PLC consumers; and to oversee overall factory’s end to end food production and management.
This Food Scientist provides strategic/operational and tactical directions to production sub units of Sululta Factory to assess, plan/design, lead, implement, monitor, report, evaluate their respective departmental activities/output/resources so as to meet their departmental goal in particular and factory’s goal in general. This role requires a hands-on approach to managing workflows, driving improvements, and ensuring that the team performs effectively and efficiently.
Operational Support:
Prepare and conduct studies to better understand food sustainability.
Design new food processing policies.
Identify ways to make food production more efficient, including processing, manufacturing and packaging.
Study each process of food development, including land conditions and food production.
Predict food quantities and report estimates of shortages.
Monitor food safety protocols and design quality assurance policies.
Improve foods to be more nutritional and sustainable and calculate nutritional values.
Test food storage options and make recommendations on improvement.
Identify new manufacturing procedures and methods
Determine cost-effective methods of producing foods.
Evaluating the nutritional value, color, flavor and texture of food
Testing food samples for particular types of molds, yeast and bacteria that may be harmful
Ensuring that food manufacturing processes conform with government, processing, consumer industry, and ISO standards
Producing new food products
working closely with other food production staff including microbiologists, engineers, packaging specialists and buyers
Investigating and setting standards for safety and quality
Team Management:
Helps departments to organize the necessary information in a systematic way so that the production, planning, monitoring, and control system are contained and strengthened
Supervises and mentors staff, offering guidance and support. Conducts performance reviews and provides feedback for employee development.
Identifies knowledge, skill and behavior gaps of the production staff and organizes development programs to enhance team capabilities.
Organizes staff and meeting and shares updates to concerned
Leadership:
Provides robust leadership to the team
Aligns employees behind the company’s goal by creating team sprit
Influence staff on cost leadership via employing leadership framework
Represents the factory and markets its branding, diplomatically negotiates with strategic stakeholders and maintains companies interest
Strategic Planning:
Prepares workmanship, activity, procurement, spending plans with relevant department heads
Contributes input to concerned department on marketing strategies ( targeting, positioning and segmentation)
Collaborates with the managers to plan, execute, and evaluate departments’ strategies and initiatives.
Contributes to setting department goals and targets, and ensuring alignment with overall company objectives.
Prepares regular reports on performance, operational metrics, and departmental achievements.
Analyzes data to identify trends, issues, and areas for improvement.
Addresses operational issues and challenges promptly and effectively.
Makes critical decisions when the manager is unavailable and raise critical issues when necessary.
Ensures compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
Assists in identifying and mitigating operational risks.
Assures compliance to food safety, statutory, regulatory, mutually agreed customer requirements and other obligations.
Fulfills and exceed the needs and expectations of customers and ensure the highest possible satisfaction of the customers.
Ensures the production and supply of safe products across the supply chain
Contributes for the demand and supply chain managements
Prevents cross-contamination and controls hazards by developing or innovating systems/methods
Manages threats and vulnerabilities by establishing food defense and food fraud mitigation measures
Minimizes and effectively manages risks and use opportunities to improve performance,
Ensures preparedness and response to emergency situations and accidents.
Develops matured food safety culture within the management, employees and relevant parties,
Periodically monitor, measures, analyzes and evaluates the food safety management systems in compliance with the standards.
Continually validates, verifies, reviews, improves and updates the food safety management system for the continuing suitability, adequacy and effectiveness of the system.
Establishes, implements, documents, maintains and continually improves the food safety management system (ISO 22000) in the operations.
Introduces ERP to concerned staff and makes it fully operational.
Ensures spot check and inventory management plans are in place, implemented and reported on regular and impromptu bases
Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications:
Educational Background:
MSC/BSC degree in Food Science/Technology, Food/Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Nutrition, Microbiology or Chemistry
Experience and Skills:
Respectively, MSC/BSC 5/7 years of experience in food industry work
A range of sciences and their applications to food
Good business, IT, ERP analytical and numerical abilities
Meticulous attention to detail, particularly with regard to health, safety and hygiene
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills,
Strong problem-solving abilities and a data-driven approach to decision-making,
Ability to work under pressure, to manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines
Knowledge and understanding of Ethiopian production seasons is preferred,
Fluent in English, Afaan Oromoo and Amharic
