ZOA is looking for a
Gender and Social Inclusion Advisor
ZOA’s programme in Ethiopia
ZOA works in several regions in Ethiopia: Gambella Regional State (field office in Gambella Town), Somali Regional State (field office in Dolo Ado and Melkadida refugee camp), Tigray Regional State (field office in Shire and Mekelle), Oromia Regional State (field office in Harar), Amhara and Addis Ababa. In Ethiopia, ZOA works with Internally Displaced People (IDPs), host populations, persons with disabilities, returnees, and a large population of refugees who fled a combination of violence and drought in Somalia, South Sudan and Eritrea.

Your challenge
ZOA is determined to ensure that Gender, Dicersity and Inclusion (GDI) are mainstreamed in all its programmes. Therefore, GDI is a core crosscutting theme and important in all our sectors and countries. The Gender and Social Inclusion Adviser is responsible for developing and overseeing the overall quality and technical aspects of ZOA Ethiopia’s programmes and projects from the GDI lens. The position holder will have a key role in developing GDI policy for ZOA Ethiopia, build technical capacity within the organization, develop mainstreaming toolkits of various proven approaches including manuals, training courses, etc. in line with organizational and international standards. S/he will report to the Manager of Programme Quality.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Program strategy and development
Develop and lead the implementation of the ZOA’s Gender, Diversity and Inclusion strategy and portfolio;
In collaboration with relevant sector specialists, ensure the mainstreaming of GDI in all proposal development, theory of change, projet cycle management and budget development;
Coordinate with Grant Manager and Grant Finance Coordinator to ensure adequate budgeting for GDI mainstreaming;
Serve as the focal point in technical areas of GDI.
2. Technical Leadership and Capacity Building
Provide technical support and monitoring for quality assurance on ZOA’s GDI programming and workplace culture and promote adherence to global GDI standards;
Supervise and support the timely and effective implementation of GDI focused projects and activities across operational areas, in line with budgets and work-plans;
Promote gender equity, diversity and inclusion in the Country Office by encouraging a gender-responsive work environment and flagging issues and gaps as they arise;
Coordinate with MEAL team to integrate GDI performance monitoring indicators and activities in all projects;
Oversee the production of GDI-related best practices, lessons learned and research papers including advising on research design and methodology in collaboration with the MEAL team;
Regularly assess and strengthen the capacity of ZOA’s team on GDI, ensuring that team members are able to access training and professional development resources appropriate to their capacity gaps/needs;
Coordinate the dissemination of key technical material and SOPs and organize training with a special focus on standards and best practice of GDI mainstreaming;
Build the technical capacity of ZOA staff, partners, NGOs and government counterparts as required.
3. External Representation and Communication
Establish and maintain communications with key GDI (including Protection) stakeholders at national, and sub-national level authorities, national and international organizations and civil society actors;
Engage actively in existing coordination mechanisms and clusters focused on GDI.
4. Monitoring and Reporting
Support the development of needs assessments, rapid gender analysis, and gender marker screening and conduct an in-depth analysis of the data collected;
Work closely with the MEAL team in the monitoring of interventions examining the GDI aspects of the delivery;
Collaborate with the MEAL team in the collation, analysis and sharing of data related to project activities focused on GDI for the purposes of designing new interventions, donor advocacy, fundraising and reporting;
Lead on the review of GDI components of project reports – contributing both in terms of narrative reporting and data analysis;
Regularly review and improve GDI programming (emergency response and long-term GDI programming) performance and assess coherence with prevention and mitigation components in other programs/sectors in collaboration with ZOA’s Disability Inclusion adviser
Participate in grant start-up and close-out workshops for the integration of learning from projects in subsequent designs.
5. Research Innovation and Learning
Lead on the development of GDI position, policy and research papers relevant to the ZOA Ethiopia context;
Lead in identifying and documenting, lessons and promising practices.

2. Allowances
Transportation allowance: ETB 1,500 for our programme field office staff, & ETB 2,000 for our country office staff per month.
Airtime Allowance: We provide data and airtime to enable you to conduct your work outside of the office.
we provide a closed user group so you can speak to your colleagues at no cost.
Food Allowance: we provide lunch daily at our offices, ZOA pays 600 ETB per month and staff contribute 400 ETB per month.
Severance payment: one month’s salary for an extra service year.
Hardship Allowance: If you are working in identified places as a remote and hazardous by the government, you will be entitled 20-40% additional allowances of their basic salary. Therefore, we provide 40% hardship allowance to ZOA employees working in Gambella, Dollo Ado and Shire field offices.
Transfer Allowance: We provide transfer allowance of 10,000 ETB If, in case of you permanently shift or transfer to a new programme area.
3. Paid Leave

Annual Leave: 20 days of annual leave in addition to public holidays, and you are also granted one extra day for each extra full year.
Enhanced Maternity Leave provision, 4 months
Paternity Leave 5 working days.
Rest and Recuperation (R&R): We provide you 5 working days for every consecutive 12 weeks of work R&R leave to unaccompanied staff who work away from their permanent place of residence to spend time with their family. Therefore, ZOA provides R&R leave for its employees who work in the program offices in Somali, Gambela, and Tigray regions.
4. Insurance
Provident Fund + Pension: : 32% (22% from ZOA and 10% from You.
Life insurance
Medical Insurance: We also covers your dependents, and your medical expenditures are covered by ZOA up to 100% of each invoice, up to a defined maximum refunded amount of Br 200,000 ETB per annum.

Education & Experience
Master’s degree in Gender studies, sociology, social studies, social works or any related fields with practical experience in mainstreaming gender, women empowerment and social inclusion.
At least five years of working experience for Degree holders and fours years of experience for Masters holders on gender and social inclusion issues, mainstreaming the engagement of vulnerable and marginalized groups in project initiatives
proven experience in designing and conducting capacity-building training on gender mainstreaming, including the development of training materials/modules on gender issues;
Prior experience designing and implementing gender plans for projects.
