International Development Enterprises (iDE) is an international NGO working with the mission to create income and livelihood opportunities for poor rural households in Ethiopia through the
various development projects implemented in six national regional states (Amhara, Oromia, South Ethiopia, Southwest Ethiopia, Somali and Tigray) of the country. iDE is currently looking for a qualified and experienced personnel for the positions that fulfil the requirements specified hereunder. Position Summary
The GESI Expert will provide technical support to programs implemented using a Market Systems Development (MSD) approach. The consultant will ensure that gender equality and social
inclusion principles are effectively integrated into agricultural and WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) programs. The assignment will focus on strengthening inclusive strategies, building staff capacity, and enhancing equitable participation and benefit-sharing among target groups.
Location: Addis Ababa with travel to project field locations as required.
Duration: Short-term consultancy for 1 year with possibility of extension
Salary and benefit package: As per the scale of the Organization.
Closing date: 7 (Seven) calendar days from the first date of announcement.
Key Responsibilities
1. GESI Integration and Strategy Development:
Review and strengthen the integration of gender and social inclusion within ongoing Market Systems Development, agricultural, and WASH programs. Provide practical recommendations and tools to enhance inclusive program design and implementation.
2. Technical Advisory Support:Provide hands-on technical guidance to program teams to ensure gender-transformative and socially inclusive approaches are embedded across interventions, partnerships, and market actor engagement.
3. Capacity Building:Design and deliver training sessions, coaching, and mentoring support to staff and partners on GESI principles, tools, and application within MSD, agriculture, and WASH sectors.
4. Analysis and Assessment:Conduct gender and social inclusion analyses, identify key barriers to participation for women and marginalized groups, and propose context-specific solutions to improve equitable access to services, resources, and market opportunities.
5. Monitoring, Learning, and Reporting:Support the integration of GESI indicators into the MERL framework, contribute to reporting, and document lessons learned and best practices related to inclusive programming.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Rural Development, social psychology or related field Proven hands-on experience in Gender Equality and Social Inclusion within Market
Systems Development programsPractical experience in agricultural and/or WASH program
Strong understanding of gender-transformative approaches and inclusive market systems
Experience conducting gender analysis and developing actionable recommendations
Excellent facilitation and training skills
Strong analytical and report writing skills
Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage
Willingness to travel to field locations as required
