Job Summary

This is a senior position with combined grants management and capacity development responsibilities. The incumbent plays key roles in coordinating and managing grants and in organizational growth. S/he is in charge of ensuring grants are effectively and efficiently implemented; the capacity of NEWA and its constituents/member associations and organizations are developed through granting, capacity improvement trainings, technically assistance, follow up and supportive supervision. The officer also is in charge of resource and fund mobilization and strengthening the technical skills, and institutional effectiveness of NEWA an members and partners. S/he is responsible in developing contracts and ensure their and donor compliances.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master’s Degree in Social Science, Management or with related field of study

  • Educational Background in gender studies an asset

Experience:

  • 5-7 years of relevant work experience

  • Proven grant management and capacity development experience

  • Knowledge and exposure to the CSO sector and the donor environment

  • Project/ program management, research, and monitoring and evaluation

Duties and Responsibilities

The officer is a focal person for the multiyear Renewed Women Voice and Leadership Project- Ethiopia (RWVL), implemented in partnership with Care-Ethiopia, Principal Partners

Grant management

  • Set in place detailed grant management frameworks, including grant contracts and calls for proposals, to guide the implementation of the grants at all phases from inception to closeup,

  • Establish grant procedures and systems to meet objectives, results and outcomes,

  • Monitor grant budgets, reviewing rate of financial expenditures in close collaboration with finance manager and team,

  • Closely follow up and monitor the contracts, donor rules and regulations, and budget compliances, and organizational policies,

  • Prepare terms of references or call for proposals for granting, and conduct technically assessments and select grantees for funding in collaboration with grant management team / procurement committee as appropriate,

  • Ensure that grant milestones are met, including reporting schedules and qualities,

  • Establish strong and functional grant and project coordination and management structures, such as steering and technical committees, for proper functioning and project implementation, guided by ToRs,

Capacity Development

  • Develop and lead proposals for resource mobilization and fundraising based on the strategic plan and available funding and calls,

  • Establish and lead a fundraising and resource mobilization team to bring together expertise for quality proposals,

  • Prepare donor mapping, identify potential funding opportunities, and initiate proposals,

  • Identify potential partners for joint fundraising and applications, including member associations and international partners,

  • Conduct needs assessment to identify performance and training needs among staff, members associations//organizations and grantees,

  • Organize targeted training and mentorship workshops using internal capacity or by hiring consultants,

  • Develop standardized training materials, manuals, and toolkits for ongoing professional development of NEWA’s and members, grantee staff

MEAL Actions

  • Set in place a result, outcome, and impact tracking mechanism, tools in collaboration with the MEAL team

  • Prepare techniques and guide the documentation of best practices, success stories, and lessons learnt from grantees and funded projects

  • Liise has strong collaborations with donor partners, implementing partners, partner institutions, grantees, and stakeholders,

Safeguarding compliance

  • Make sure all grant and capacity development activities champion principles of accountability, transparency, gender mainstreaming, and safeguarding

  • Identify research areas, review research reports, policy briefs for evidence-based advocacy, and voice

  • Organize consultative and dialogue sessions with policy and decision makers on gender equality, women's empowerment, leadership, and policies

  • Facilitate regular communication, reporting, and ensure timely delivery of outputs, and alignment with project objectives,

  • Represent NEWA in meetings, forums, conferences and consultations pertinent to the RWVL project and other engagements as delegated,

  • Provide necessary briefings, documents, information for communication and visibility, and documentation purposes to the communication team (website, media, social media) and closely work with the team.

  • Contribute to regular project implementation monitoring and budget follow-up/ review meetings, and ensure adequate follow-up on agreed action points.

  • Assist the program manager regarding other grant management and capacity development initiatives

  • Execute other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the program manager and other responsible bodies

Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge and exposure to the CSO sector and donor environment

  • Project/ program management, research, and monitoring and evaluation

  • Research skills with a background in gender equality, policy/ advocacy,

  • Familiarity with national policies, laws, plans, programs, strategies, and international conventions,

  • Strong communication and analytical skills.

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and the Google Workspace.

  • Should have the ability to write well-structured reports

  • Desirable: Similar

Language fluency

  • English (proficient in both writing and speaking)

  • Knowledge of other local languages an asset

  • Reliable and able to work independently under low supervision, pressure, and in a team

  • Good working relationship, team worker,

  • Able to meet deadlines for deliverables
