Background

Florensis Ethiopia PLC is a multinational garden plant cuttings producing and exporting company that manages around 700 workers throughout the year and hundreds of additional seasonal workers in high production season. The company is situated in Oromia Region, Eastern Shoa Zone: Lume Woreda Koka Town. 

Dimensions of Role: 

• Keeping crops overall health through proper feeding. 

• Managing irrigation water drainage issues both inside and around the farm areas.  

Typical Responsibilities - Key End Results of Position: 

Daily feeding program: 

• Implement daily crop feeding program in consultation with his direct report-Irrigation based on weather, previous day’s data, protocols and crop needs and present it to the Operations Manager for discussion and approval. 

• Walk the crop daily with the Agronomy Coordinators to access crop feeding needs and propose adjustments to the Operations managers and direct report. 

• Plan fertilizer order and sign the requisition.  

Crop Fertilizer Recipes: 

• Implement the crop recipes based on protocols and as advised from time to time. 

Feed solution samples: 

• Monitor drain and drip samples in all GHs for accuracy and reliability. 

• Counter-check, the data before it is forwarded to all stakeholders. 

• Ensure all samples containers are emptied and cleaned daily.  

• Manage a weekly, monthly and annual trend analysis of feeding data and submit the report to all stakeholders. 

• Monitor EC/PH in daily basis and submit the report to all stakeholders. 

Technical operations: 

• You will lead all the technical jobs in the department in the absence of direct report. 

• Fertilizer mixing according to best practice on the Standard Operating Procedure 

• You will work closely to all stakeholders at all times to foster teamwork. 

• Operating Priva (Irrigation and climate) computer 

• Operate all installations in pump house 

• Operate and maintain generator 

• Operating reverse osmosis and UV machine 

   

Operation of Climate Computer 

• Change the settings of the irrigation unit with Priva climate pc 

• Adjust greenhouse climate settings according to the crop need and consult with the Agronomy Coordinator, Agronomy Manager and Operations Manager 

• Follow up that the system (roof, ventilators) is running properly and report problems to the Maintenance department. 

Work on drainage system and irrigation support for community farmers: 

• Providing the irrigation water to Shulki village with clear rules and without affecting the internal company requirements. 

• Preparing clear memorandum of understanding and responsibilities for providing the service as part of CSR project. 

• Manage issues concerning internal and external drainage system including the drainage in Shulki village. 

• Involve in communication with surrounding community to build good image of the company. 

• Work on other activities as instructed by immediate Manager.

Job Requirements

Educational Background 

• BSC Degree in horticulture, Agronomy, Plant science or related field 

• 5 years relevant work experience especially in irrigation and pump house. 

Skills specific to the Post 

• Language writing, reading, listening, and speaking skills in all English, Amharic and Oromifa. 

• Analyzing information and Verbal Communication. 

• Good interpersonal skills and proficient in computer skills. 

• Strong people management/ leadership skills. 

• Knowledge of operating climate software.
