Roha Medical Campus PLC (RMC) is building an integrated health campus in Addis Ababa. When complete, it will provide world-class, high-quality, affordable healthcare across multiple hospitals and facilities. The campus will include a medical school and facilities for research and innovation. It will be set in a lush, green setting, built to the highest sustainability standards, and with a beautiful urban park open to the public. Development of the campus has begun, and the first hospital is already under construction.

Roha is seeking an HIS Specialist to support the operations team in the successful completion of the Roha Medical Campus in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as the central point of contact and expert for the RMC HIS development, installation, and maintenance, actively engaging with key stakeholders to fulfill operational requirements.

  • Lead the development of functional and non-functional HIS requirements to align with the facility’s specific objectives.

  • Perform market analysis to assess experience, quality, and availability of continued technical support and services.

  • Work in tandem with consultants and operators to select the most suitable HIS software and vendors.

  • Develop a detailed HIS budget, encompassing all financial aspects of the system’s implementation and maintenance.

  • Negotiate with suppliers and consultants to obtain quotations and ensure cost-effective procurement for systems.

  • Conduct pre- and post-purchase evaluations of software to ensure quality and suitability.

  • Assist in the procurement and updating of software, ensuring the HIS remains current and functional.

  • Lead and guide implementation of HIS across the various units, including coordinating targeted system training sessions, and evaluating and reporting on the effectiveness of these initiatives.

  • Manage project timelines and ensure that implementation milestones are met and provide detailed reports on the status of the system implementation.

  • Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for system users.

  • Ensure the system is integrated with other healthcare technologies.

  • Monitor the performance of the system, analyze user feedback, and make recommendations for improvements.

  • Conduct regular audits to ensure data integrity and security within the system.

  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to the system usage.

  • Stay up to date with the latest developments in the system and healthcare regulations.

  • Facilitate communication between healthcare providers, the system provider, consultants, and other stakeholders.

  • Ensure that all system updates and upgrades are implemented smoothly.

  • Undertake additional related duties as necessary to contribute to the project’s success and the operation’s ongoing efficiency.

  • Deliver regular progress reports to stakeholders, highlighting milestones and any challenges encountered.

Remuneration

Salary is competitive and will depend on the applicant’s background and experience.

Job Requirement

Successful applicants have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in health information technology, computer sciences, or a related field. A master’s degree in health informatics is a plus.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as an HIS Specialist or a similar role in health information management.

  • Advanced proficiency in programming languages and electronic medical record (EMR) software, such as SQL and Epic.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, coding, statistics, quality assurance, ethics, and privacy regulations.

  • Excellent and effective communication skills, both oral and written, with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong problem-solving, reporting, and analytical skills.

  • Fluency in English and Amharic is a must.

  • Experience working in Ethiopia is a must.
