About the Role
HEINEKEN is looking for an experienced and technically skilled Mechanical Technician to join its maintenance team in Bedele. The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for supporting the reliable operation of production and packaging equipment through effective preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and equipment inspections. The role requires strong practical mechanical knowledge and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out preventive, corrective, and routine mechanical maintenance on production and packaging equipment.
- Inspect machinery and equipment to identify mechanical faults, wear, and potential failures.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical breakdowns and restore equipment to safe and reliable operating condition.
- Perform mechanical repairs, adjustments, replacements, and equipment servicing as required.
- Support planned maintenance activities to minimize equipment downtime and improve reliability.
- Monitor equipment condition and report recurring mechanical issues to the relevant supervisor or maintenance team.
- Work with production and other maintenance team members to respond promptly to equipment breakdowns.
- Ensure maintenance activities are performed in accordance with approved procedures and safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, breakdowns, repairs, and spare parts used.
- Support installation, modification, commissioning, and improvement of mechanical equipment where required.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and maintenance work areas are properly maintained and organized.
- Follow all applicable health, safety, quality, environmental, and operational standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, efficiency, and reduction of downtime.
- Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical qualification.
- Vocational/TVET qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related field may also be considered based on relevant experience and technical competence.
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in mechanical maintenance.
- Strong practical knowledge of industrial machinery and mechanical systems.
- Experience in a manufacturing, FMCG, beverage, food processing, or other industrial production environment is highly desirable.
- Experience working with production or packaging machinery is an advantage.
Technical Competencies
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Good understanding of industrial machinery and mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance practices.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and equipment manuals.
- Knowledge of bearings, gearboxes, pumps, conveyors, pneumatic systems, and related mechanical components.
- Ability to identify root causes of mechanical failures and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
