As the first HR hire for Selata Energy, you will be responsible for building our local workforce from scratch, establishing HR policies in compliance with Ethiopian Labor Law, and managing the day-to-day administrative operations of our new factory in Debre Berhan.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Recruitment & Talent Acquisition
Manage the full cycle of recruitment for factory operators, technicians, and office staff.
Collaborate with the Project Manager to define job requirements and source candidates through Ethiojobs, local universities, and industrial park networks.
Conduct initial screenings, organize interviews, and handle background checks.
2. HR Compliance & Policy Development
Draft and implement the company’s Internal Rules and Regulations in accordance with the Ethiopian Labor Proclamation.
Prepare and manage Employment Contracts for all local staff.
Ensure all HR practices align with the requirements of the Investment Commission (EIC) and the Industrial Park Development Corporation (IPDC).
3. Payroll & Benefits Administration
Set up the payroll system, ensuring accurate calculation of salaries, overtime, and bonuses.
Manage statutory deductions including Pension, PIT (Personal Income Tax), and insurance.
Oversee employee attendance and leave management.
4. Employee Relations & Labor Liaison
Act as the primary point of contact for employee grievances and disciplinary actions.
Maintain a professional relationship with the local Labor Office and labor unions (if applicable).
Handle work permit and visa renewals for expatriate staff in coordination with the admin assistant.
5. General Administration
Supervise factory canteen, cleaning services, and security personnel.
Manage office facility maintenance and coordination with utility providers.
Job Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or Law.
Experience: * 3–5 years of HR experience, with at least 2 years in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Proven experience in a startup environment is highly preferred.
Deep knowledge of Ethiopian Labor Proclamation (1156/2019).
Skills:
Excellent communication and negotiation skills in Amharic and English.
Ability to work independently and build systems from the ground up.
Proficiency in HR software and Microsoft Excel.
Personal Attributes: High integrity, organized, and capable of handling sensitive information.
