The Ethiopian Diabetes Association (EDA) was established on January 23, 1984 G.C (1976 E.C) as the first patient-based association in Ethiopia. Its purpose is to provide a forum for diabetes patients to discuss prevention, share information, and access treatment.

EDA is seeking to hire a qualified candidate for the following position:

Reports to: General Manager

 Employment Category: One-year contract with possible extension 

Position Summary

The Human Resource Manager will report directly to the General Manager and oversee all employee-related functions. The role serves as a liaison between management and staff, handling recruitment, onboarding, performance management, compensation, benefits, employee relations, training, and legal compliance. The HR Manager will foster a positive, productive, and strategic workforce aligned with EDA’s mission.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Recruitment & Onboarding: Lead sourcing, interviewing, hiring, and integration of new employees.

  • Employee Relations: Address conflicts, resolve issues, and promote a positive work environment.

  • Performance Management: Support evaluations, goal setting, and employee development.

  • Compensation & Benefits: Administer pay structures, benefits programs, and payroll oversight.

  • Policy & Compliance: Develop, implement, and enforce HR policies; ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations.

  • Training & Development: Organize workshops, training sessions, and career development programs.

  • Strategic Planning: Partner with leadership on workforce planning, retention, and organizational strategy.

  • Culture & Engagement: Drive initiatives to boost morale, engagement, and promote organizational values including diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Experience:

  • Minimum of four years’ experience in HR management.

  • Experience in NGO environments is advantageous.

Additional Training:

  • Computer training certificate with excellent computer proficiency.

  • Leadership training certificate.

Competencies / Technical Skills:

  • Leadership & Strategy: Ability to align HR initiatives with organizational objectives.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written skills for presentations, policy updates, and sensitive conversations.

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to use HR metrics (e.g., turnover rates, satisfaction scores) for decision-making.

  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with HRIS systems such as Workday, ADP, or Bamboo HR.

Personal Attributes:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and foster trust.

  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail-oriented.

  • Integrity and professionalism.

  • Strong team player.

Languages:

  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Amharic.
