I. Job Summary

The female-only internship program is a one-year program with the primary objectives of empowering young female graduates and impacting the organization's gender parity. It provides emerging female talents an opportunity to apply knowledge and enhance skills through mentoring and coaching, expanding their professional network, working on value-added projects, gaining hands-on experience, and getting acquainted with the oriental difference. The gender intern is required to assist L4R project frontline staff specifically the FFE to implement gender responsive project activities and support the Bilate Zuria L4R project gender program implementation.

L4R is a two-years project that will be implemented in Bilate Zuria woreda of Sidama Regional State (SRS). The Project aims to improve detrimental gender and social norms, inequitable access to inputs and assets, accessibility barriers, and exclusion from decision-making exacerbate these challenges for women, youth, and persons with disabilities.

II. Responsibilities

  • Works closely with other project staff and implementing partners in planning and implementing the project activities.

  • Participate in the Gender and GBV related assessments. 

  • Assist gender training need assessment to identify government line offices and project staff’s knowledge gap and design appropriate training accordingly. 

  • Assist and monitor the overall implementation of Gender program activities based on their established indicators, including collating, and analyzing data and information for reporting.

  • Assist in the learning brief, technical brief, and project best practices preparation.

  • Support program's gender technical team in the integration of gender components in the implementation of the project’s planned activities

  • Assist to clear and complete gender program documentation of L4R project and other projects in the unit.

  • Support organizing Meetings/workshops and preparing reports/minutes. 

  • Support conducting field visits to make sure that the gender elements are mainstreamed in the implementation project and government sector offices by maintain field visit reports and keep clear records of travel documents.

  • Support preparation and review of learning and technical briefs. 

  • Support the facilitation of training on VESA methodology, financial literacy and business skill training.

  • Facilitate the establishment and regular follow up of VESA groups.

  • Support the capacity building of government staff on gender mainstreaming and women’s economic rights.

  • Collaborate with project team in the identification and targeting of project participants based on vulnerability criteria.

  • Collaborate with project team in Ensuring equitable representation and participation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in planning and decision-making.

  • Support the capacity building of government staff on gender mainstreaming and women’s economic rights.

III Gender 

  • Understanding and demonstrated commitment to the importance of gender, youth and social inclusion issues.

  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of Gender Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and PSEAH (safeguarding), as evidenced in previous positions/programming.

Job Requirements

IV Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or MA in gender studies, sociology, Gender and development, Psychology, social studies, and related fields 

  • Female fresh graduate 

  • Zero years of work experience 

Desired Technical Skills

  • Good written and verbal Sidaamu Afoo and English language skills

  • Good computer proficiency (i.e., Ms. Word, Excel,)

  • Firm belief in gender equality and sensitivity to vulnerable groups

  • Team player, flexible, and able to work in the multi-cultural working setting

  • Quick learning ability, communication, and strong interpersonal skills.
