Cha-Chi General Trading PLC is a dynamic and growing trading company engaged in the import, distribution, and sales of high-demand commercial and medical equipment, heavy duty construction machines and agricultural equipment in Ethiopia. Based on our recent feasibility study, we are expanding our operations in machine rental services, medical equipment supply, and food and nutrition, requiring a skilled and detail-oriented accountant to manage financial records, tax compliance, payroll, and financial reporting including electronic reporting using the government E-Tax system. 

The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with Ethiopian tax laws, processing payroll, reconciling accounts, and supporting financial decision-making. S/he will responsible to handle tax and other administrative reporting tasks that are reportable to the government revenue office. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience with accounting software, government financial management systems (E-Tax, E-trade and Single window e.t.c) and a thorough understanding of Ethiopian tax regulations. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Tax Compliance & Reporting 

  • Compute and file all taxes (WHT, VAT, Income Tax, Pension, etc.) monthly and ensure timely submission to the Ethiopian Revenue Authority (ERA). 

  • Carry out electronic tax reporting regularly and organize receipts, advices, bank statements, payment vouchers, contract agreements and other business-related files. 

  • Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations, keeping updated on changes in tax policies. 

  • Attend government provided trainings on tax management and reporting and new developments. 

  2. Payroll Management 

  • Compute and prepare monthly payroll for all staff in accordance with company policies and Ethiopian labor laws. 

  • Ensure accurate deductions (Pension, Income Tax, etc.) and timely salary disbursement. 

  • Ensure all the relevant documents around payroll and income tax reporting are filed properly and timely. 

  3. Financial Documentation & Record Keeping 

  • Process and verify financial vouchers, ensuring proper supporting documents (invoices, receipts, contracts, payment requests, cash receiving vouchers) are attached. 

  • Accurately code and record transactions in the accounting system following company policies. 

  • Maintain organized and secure financial records under lock & key, ensuring confidentiality. 

  4. Financial Analysis & Reconciliation 

  • Conduct monthly reconciliation of bank statements, general ledger accounts, and balance sheet items. 

  • Analyse debtors and creditors aging reports to monitor cash flow and follow up on overdue payments. 

  • Track depreciation, amortization, insurance, and office rent for periodic adjustments. 

  • Track and monitor other expenditures in the company and report regularly within the reporting period. 

  5. Accounts Payable & Receivable Management 

  • Monitor payable and receivable accounts, ensuring timely collections and payments. 

  • Liaise with suppliers and customers to resolve discrepancies and maintain smooth financial operations. 

  6. Financial Reporting 

  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with accounting standards. 

  • Generate financial reports for management to support decision-making and budgeting. 

  • Submit monthly financial and import status reports of the import status to the revenue office  

  7. Cross-functional Collaboration 

  • Work closely with different departments (procurement, sales, logistics) to ensure accurate financial tracking. 

  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation. 

  8. Additional Duties 

  • Perform any other related tasks as assigned by the Finance Manager or the CEO. 

Job Requirements

Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in accounting, preferably in trading, import/export, or manufacturing sectors. 

  • Strong knowledge of Ethiopian tax laws (VAT, WHT, Income Tax, Pension). 

  • Experience with accounting software (Peachtree, QuickBooks, Zoho Books, etc.).
