Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC (KGM) is a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp, a company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, with mining operations in multiple countries including Ethiopia, Mali, and Côte d'Ivoire. KGM holds a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and three Exploration Licenses for its Ethiopian project. These licenses are located in western Ethiopia, approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa and about 90 km northwest of Assosa, in the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State. KGM is currently engaged in both mine development and exploration activities at the site.

The Junior Legal Associate will support the legal department in providing timely and effective legal advice, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and assisting in the management of legal risks associated with the company’s mining operations. This role is ideal for a motivated legal professional with a keen interest in corporate, environmental, and mining law.
Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, MOUs, and other legal documents.
Conduct legal research and prepare a legal memo on regulatory issues affecting the mining sector.
Support the legal team in managing litigation and dispute resolution processes.
Monitor compliance with mining, environmental, labor, and corporate laws.
Liaise with external counsel and government agencies as needed.
Maintain and organize legal files, records, and documentation.
Assist in the development and implementation of internal legal policies and procedures.
Provide legal support to other departments on operational matters.
Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations relevant to the mining industry.
Prepare legal insights and updates on newly enacted legislation and regulatory changes.
Prepare and organize legal documentation related to permits, licenses, contracts, and regulatory filings.
Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI): Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in law (LL. B); additional certifications in mining or environmental law are a plus.
Experience:
0–2 years of legal experience, preferably in corporate or regulatory law.
Technical Skills:
Strong legal research and analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal research tools.
Other Requirements
Familiarity with Ethiopian mining laws and regulations.
Experience working in or with the extractive industries.
High ethical standards and attention to detail.
Willingness to travel to remote mining sites when required.
