Job Summary
We are seeking passionate and motivated entry-level Veterinary Laboratory Technologists to join our growing diagnostic team. This role is ideal for recent graduates with a BSc in Veterinary Laboratory Technology, eager to apply their academic knowledge in a professional, purpose-driven environment.
You will be working in our Serology, Molecular Biology (PCR), and Bacteriology sections, supporting field sample collection and contributing to our lab’s ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Sample Collection & Processing
Assist in field collection of blood, swab, and tissue samples from poultry farms and hatcheries.
Ensure accurate sample labeling, safe transportation, and adherence to biosafety protocols.
Process and prepare samples for diagnostic testing using approved SOPs.
Diagnostic Testing
Conduct diagnostic procedures such as ELISA, PCR, and bacteriological cultures under supervision.
Record, analyze, and report test results accurately and timely.
Support diagnostic investigations during disease outbreaks and surveillance programs.
Quality Assurance & ISO 17025 Compliance
Follow laboratory quality management systems in line with ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
Participate in internal quality control, equipment calibration, and method validation activities.
Maintain precise documentation and contribute to continual improvement of lab processes.
Laboratory Operations
Maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and safety in the lab.
Observe Ethiopian veterinary and biosafety regulations in all procedures.
Collaborate with production, health, and R&D teams to ensure diagnostic accuracy and rapid response to poultry health issues.
Professional Development
Take part in training sessions and skill-building workshops organized by EthioChicken.
Stay informed on current poultry diseases and diagnostic innovations relevant to the Ethiopian context.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Laboratory Technology or related field (fresh graduates encouraged).
Basic knowledge of poultry pathogens and diagnostic tools including PCR, ELISA, and bacteriological techniques.
Familiarity (or strong interest) in ISO/IEC 17025 systems and quality standards.
Strong attention to detail, reliability, and commitment to lab protocols.
Effective communication skills in Amharic and English.
Team-oriented mindset and readiness to work in a dynamic, field-integrated environment.
Basic computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, and reporting tools).
