Contract Duration: Six (6) months with possible extension based on performance and fund availability

Background
The AHRI Medical Laboratory is a newly re-established facility equipped with state-of-the-art technology and expanded services under the Clinical Trials Directorate. The laboratory is strengthening its services and Quality Management Systems (QMS) to meet international standards and accreditation requirements, including ISO 15189.
Achieving and maintaining these standards requires strong technical leadership and sustainable laboratory systems. Addressing identified gaps in quality management, laboratory operations, equipment maintenance, reagent supply, method validation, and quality control is critical.
AHRI is therefore seeking a senior Laboratory Manager to provide specialized technical leadership and ensure full alignment with ISO 15189 requirements, readiness for accreditation assessment, and sustained quality services. The Laboratory Manager will lead and coordinate all laboratory activities, including the ISO 15189 accreditation process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Laboratory Management
Provide technical and operational leadership, coordinating all laboratory activities and personnel
Assess operational challenges, recommend strategies, and ensure sustainable laboratory services
Review service, maintenance, and reagent supply arrangements for laboratory equipment and testing systems
Provide technical input for the development, review, and negotiation of equipment service agreements and reagent supply contracts
Provide technical advice on method validation, verification, and estimation of measurement uncertainty
Advise on ensuring continuous availability of quality control materials, including alternative solutions where necessary
Support preparation and facilitation of management review meetings
Ensure audit findings are properly documented, tracked, and resolved
2. ISO 15189 Accreditation Leadership
Conduct or coordinate internal audits and ISO 15189 gap assessments
Identify non-conformities and areas for improvement
Develop and manage accreditation work plans, timelines, and deliverables
Develop, implement, and monitor Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) plans
Ensure implementation of quality policies, SOPs, manuals, and records
Establish, review, and strengthen the laboratory Quality Management System (QMS) in line with ISO 15189
Interpret ISO 15189 requirements and translate them into practical laboratory procedures
Lead the end-to-end ISO 15189 accreditation process
Serve as the primary contact person with the accreditation body
Coordinate accreditation application submission, assessments, and follow-up actions
3. Capacity Building, Risk Management & Continuous Improvement
Prepare staff training plans and/or provide training on ISO 15189 requirements and quality principles
Promote a culture of quality, compliance, and continuous improvement
Support identification and management of laboratory risks
Monitor quality indicators and performance metrics
Lead continuous improvement initiatives aligned with ISO 15189 standard
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications and Experience
BSc in Medical Laboratory Sciences plus a Master’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Quality Management, Public Health, or a related field
Minimum of 10 years of experience in medical laboratory activities, coordination, and leadership
Demonstrated strong experience in laboratory quality management and ISO 15189 implementation and accreditation
Knowledge of internal audits, CAPA processes, and risk management
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
