Job Purpose:
The Laboratory technician supports the overall integrated clinical service, USAID-funded HIV Prevention, Testing, and Treatment Services for Key Populations.
activities and supports other packages like HTS Yield maximization activities into the overall combination prevention and test and treat activities.
The Laboratory technician reports primarily to the DIC coordinator and other top-line managers of BPDO when the need arises.
Main duties & Responsibilities:
Synergizes the team roles and responsibilities of the specific DIC and BPDO at large,
Pays maximum attention and effort in maximizing the HTC yield in the DIC,
Collects samples for CD4, CBC, viral load, and organ function test,
Delivers collected samples to regional lab/hospitals or referral laboratory based on the network provided by regional health offices for sample referral,
Collects results and gives them to the clinical care service provider to be used for decision making,
Performs onsite laboratory investigations requested by the clinical care service provider,
Prepares and archives testing SOPs for all investigations,
Follows internal quality control by doing proficiency testing for test KITs and service providers,
Prepares and submits reports by respecting the due dates,
Collects and labels all specimens and ensures that they are as per the order
Undertakes laboratory tests as prescribed by the medical staff
Puts the interest of clients/patients above all other considerations and ensures the confidentiality of all cases.
Handles properly all laboratory instruments/equipment and ensures timely reporting of mechanical failures.
Ensures proper receipt, storage, safekeeping, utilization, and regular replenishment of enough lab stocks required by pre-establishing reorder level.
Maintains proper, up-to-date, and orderly daily records of laboratory tests on the registration book and ensures their ready availability for reference and inspection.
Receives laboratory reagents by checking and ensuring the date of expiry
Renders proper training to technicians and/or assistants, as deemed necessary.
Ensures the maintenance of a high standard.
Avails himself/herself to regular stock taking as and when required
Prepares and submits monthly and/or annual laboratory and stock reports, as deemed necessary.
Ensures proper storage, handling, and issuance of drugs, office supplies, and other store items as per BPDO Store management procedures
Receives, stores, tags, and tracks store Items, prepares property lists, and keeps a Separate register of all store Items
Maintains the store records area and storage area in a neat and orderly manner
Receives and inspects all incoming materials and reconciles with receipts or Issue Vouchers
Performs related tasks as required.
Responsible for other activities ordered by the DIC Coordinator and other top-level managers of BPDO.

Job Requirements:
Persons Specification
Education: Diploma & above in Lab technician
Experience: Minimum 4 (Four) years of experience in similar positions
Working with National or International NGOs is advantageous
Have a good modulation of voice and confidence in communicating in public
Work as a team player and have flexibility in his/her work
He/she can work independently and innovatively to develop and implement supervision and training activities that help expand community participation
Experience working in humanitarian emergency settings is an asset
understanding of and commitment to BPDO's mission and values
