Improving the Legitimacy, Effectiveness, Efficiency, and Fairness of Health Care Priority Setting in Ethiopia.
Background:
The Addis Center for Ethics and Priority Setting (ACEPS), in collaboration with the Bergen Center for Ethics and Priority Setting (BCEPS) at the University of Bergen (UiB), and with support from a NORAD grant, is implementing the project titled “Fair Choices on the Path to UHC 2026–2030.” The project aims to strengthen evidence-informed priority setting (EIPS) and support its sustainable integration into decision-making processes within Ethiopia’s health system.
Job Summary:
In addition to project work, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering courses to students in Health Economics, Health Systems Management, and other Master of Public Health (MPH) programs, as well as mentoring their research activities. Based on requests from the department and the school, the candidate is also expected to support other teaching and learning activities, curriculum review, and similar academic tasks.
Job Requirements
Education:
PhD in Health Economics, Public Health with a specialty in Health Economics with related field of study
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years' experience, or an MPH with a specialty in Health Economics with a rank of Assistant or Associate Professor and a minimum of 5 years' experience.
Experience in teaching and mentoring master's student projects are highly desirable.
Duties and Responsibilities
Plan and coordinate the recruitment and enrollment of Master’s students in Health Economics as part of the project implementation.
Provide lectures on Health Economics
Support their research plan and provide supervision.
Organize scientific events and sessions.
Plan and execute their ongoing and final evaluation.
Prepare regular reports and communicate updates to the Principal Investigator (PI).
Skills & Competencies
Train or orient project staff on guidelines and operational manuals
Assist Principal Investigator in preparing reports for donors and partners
Organize regular consortium meetings and scientific events, and document deliberations
Liaise with seminar speakers and trainers, including logistical arrangements
Work independently and as part of a team with people of diverse backgrounds
Experience in multi-country or research consortium projects
Experience in project planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation
Develop scientific proposals and draft operational and scientific reports
Working knowledge of health system operations, especially in Ethiopia
Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
Fluent in English (written and verbal) with deep mastery of the discipline
Skilled in STATA, SPSS, EpiData, Atlas.ti (plus), and Microsoft Office
Encourage critical thinking and explain complex ideas clearly to students
Mentor master's student research (proposals, methods, analysis, writing) and provide actionable feedback
Adapt teaching to student needs using case studies, discussions, and real-world applications.
