Job Purpose
The Manager of the Engineering and Maintenance Department is responsible for leading all engineering and maintenance activities across the organization. This includes developing and implementing departmental policies, planning and executing projects, managing technical staff, and ensuring plant operations run efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement departmental policies, standards, and procedures.
Coordinate and direct projects, including detailed planning and integration of technical activities.
Monitor progress against project schedules and budgets; recommend and allocate resources as needed.
Oversee the development and continuous improvement of staff competence and performance.
Provide monthly reporting on departmental metrics and KPIs.
Ensure permanent corrective actions are implemented to address quality, production, equipment, tooling, and process issues.
Promote and enforce a safe and healthy work environment in compliance with legislation and company policies.
Meet performance KPIs for the mechanical, workshop, and electrical units.
Plan, design, install, and commission new equipment or lines on time and within budget.
Ensure availability of spare parts and maintain optimum inventory levels.
Minimize plant breakdowns and reduce repair and maintenance costs within budget.
Enhance plant efficiency through innovation and collaboration with other departments.
Ensure all machinery is well-maintained and ready for use with minimal downtime.
Propose and manage budgets for new and ongoing engineering projects.
Supervise multiple technical teams and ensure continuous training and development.
Execute project strategies to ensure timely completion and quality delivery.
Research and develop innovative engineering solutions for better plant efficiency.
Identify training needs and support the professional growth of technical staff.
Provide clear and concise direction to engineering teams.
Ensure machines and processes meet all safety requirements and are hazard-free.
Oversee implementation and maintenance of the Food Safety Management System.
Report and address any food safety hazards or non-conformities.
Maintain the technical workshop in a safe and clean condition, meeting hygiene standards.
Job Requirements
Basic Qualifications & Attributes
Education:
B.Sc. Degree in Engineering or a related technical field from a recognized institution.
Certification in Maintenance Programs (e.g., Preventive Maintenance) is an added advantage.
Experience:
Minimum of 8 years of experience in a busy manufacturing environment.
Proven experience in executing Preventive Maintenance schedules is highly desirable.
