The Global Communities Food for Progress (FFPr) 2025, Partnership for Productivity (P4P) Project in Ethiopia, is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). This five-year initiative is focusing on enhancing and strengthening of the livestock market systems in Ethiopia. The project aims to make the livestock sectors more productive, resilient, and profitable, thereby driving economic growth in the country.
P4P utilizes five integrated interventions, that will be implemented in collaboration with both US and Ethiopian private sector stakeholders. The interventions include:
Increase Use of Improved Agricultural Techniques and Technologies: Promote the adoption of advanced techniques and technologies to enhance agriculture and livestock productivity.
Increase Availability of Quality Inputs: Ensure Ethiopian farmers have access to high-quality agricultural/livestock inputs.
Trade Capacity Development: Support efforts to improve trade opportunities within the livestock market systems and value chains.
Increase Access to Finance and Risk Management: Expand availability to financial and risk management services to livestock producers.
Policy and Advocacy: Support policy and institutional reforms to create and expand market access for quality livestock production inputs and technologies needed by Ethiopian farmers.
The Opportunity
Are you passionate about transforming market systems and building strong public-private partnerships that deliver sustainable impact? We are seeking a Market Linkage Lead to manage the implementation of market systems development and overall market linkage initiatives. Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Party, you will work closely with public and private stakeholders to identify opportunities, address constraints, and promote competitive and sustainable market growth and linkages.
Key Responsibilities
Lead livestock market systems and value chain development interventions to increase productivity, competitiveness, and market integration of Ethiopian livestock producers.
Facilitate adoption of improved livestock production technologies and management practices, including animal health, animal feed systems, breeding, and climate-smart approaches, through market-based solutions.
Strengthen availability, quality, and sustainable distribution of livestock production inputs by linking producers with quality private-sector suppliers
Promote trade and market access by strengthening linkages among input suppliers, producers, aggregators, traders, processors, and domestic and export buyers.
Support development of efficient livestock marketing, aggregation, quality assurance, and traceability systems to meet market, food safety and sanitary standards.
Support expansion of and access to finance and risk management tools for livestock market systems and value chain actors, including credit, insurance, and innovative financing mechanisms.
Engage and leverage private-sector investment through partnerships, co-investment models, and public–private collaboration consistent with Food for Progress sustainability principles.
Support policy dialogue and advocacy efforts to improve the enabling environment for livestock trade, investment, and technology adoption.
Ensure all interventions follow facilitative Market Systems Development (MSD) principles/methodologies, emphasizing sustainability, scalability, inclusion, and reduced dependency on project support.
Coordinate with government, producer organizations, private firms, and development partners to maximize impact and avoid market distortion.
Monitor, document, and report results related to market access, productivity gains, trade expansion, and private-sector engagement in line with USDA P4P performance indicators.

Job Requirements
Qualifications
Advanced degree (MSc and above) in Agricultural economics, Development Economics, Agribusiness, Agricultural Development / Natural Resource Economics, marketing, rural development or similar fields.
At least 10 years of professional experience and at least five years of progressively responsible management experience in facilitative Market Systems Development (MSD), agribusiness, agricultural marketing, and/or rural development.
Experience in export development, including track record of facilitating export deals
Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and independently.
Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, as well as experience supervising others.
This position is for Ethiopian nationals exclusively. Fluency in English is required. Professional command of Amharic, Oromifa and Somali languages is a plus.
