The Project MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) Specialist will play a key role in supporting the project’s implementation by ensuring robust monitoring and evaluation processes, promoting accountability, and fostering continuous learning. This role is essential for collecting data, assessing project impact, and integrating community feedback into project activities. Additionally, the MEAL Specialist will provide guidance and support to branch field and regional office teams. The role also involves preparing and submitting periodic monitoring reports to the donor.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Monitoring and Data Collection:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of monitoring tools and methodologies for project indicators.

  • Conduct regular field visits to collect quantitative and qualitative data on project activities and outcomes.

  • Support the organization and execution of baseline, midline, and endline evaluations in collaboration with the Project Coordinator.

  1. Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Analyze collected data to assess project performance and identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Prepare and submit timely monitoring reports and data summaries to the Project Coordinator, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.

  1. Accountability and Community Feedback:

  • Facilitate feedback mechanisms, including community meetings and focus group discussions, to gather stakeholder input and concerns regarding project implementation.

  • Ensure that community feedback is documented, analyzed, and addressed in project planning and execution.

  1. Documentation and Learning:

  • Maintain organized records of MEAL-related documents, including monitoring plans, tools, reports, and feedback.

  • Contribute to the documentation of best practices, lessons learned, and case studies to inform future project design and implementation.

  • Participate in periodic learning sessions with project staff to reflect on findings and adapt strategies as needed.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Monitoring and Evaluation, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Agricultural Economics or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in MEAL in humanitarian or development projects, with a strong understanding of M&E frameworks and methodologies.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, Excel, or similar software).

  • Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods and participatory approaches.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including community members and project staff.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and foster a culture of learning and improvement.

  • Language: Proficiency in English and Amharic is essential.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with donor regulations and organizational policies

Location: ECC-SDCO National Office

Report to: Finance Manager

Salary: As per the scale of the organization

Duration: One year with possibility of extension
