Position Title: Mechanic

Job Purpose

To perform preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance of mechanical machinery and equipment to ensure reliable, safe, and efficient operation of production facilities. The position is responsible for inspection, troubleshooting, repair, adjustment, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems while minimizing equipment downtime and supporting continuous production.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance of production and utility equipment.

  • Inspect mechanical equipment regularly to identify wear, defects, abnormal conditions, and potential failures.

  • Diagnose mechanical faults and determine appropriate repair and maintenance requirements.

  • Repair, replace, adjust, and align mechanical components such as bearings, shafts, gears, chains, sprockets, belts, pulleys, couplings, valves, pumps, and other machine parts.

  • Perform mechanical maintenance on production-line equipment, conveyors, fillers, packers, compressors, pumps, mixers, and other associated machinery as applicable.

  • Conduct machine dismantling, assembly, alignment, adjustment, and installation activities safely and correctly.

  • Perform lubrication of machinery and equipment according to approved lubrication schedules and procedures.

  • Monitor equipment operating conditions and identify unusual vibration, noise, temperature, leakage, or other signs of mechanical failure.

  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and carry out corrective actions to restore production safely and efficiently.

  • Support maintenance activities during machine changeovers, installation, commissioning, and modification of equipment.

  • Work closely with electrical, instrumentation, production, and other maintenance personnel to resolve equipment-related problems.

  • Participate in planned preventive maintenance activities and ensure maintenance tasks are completed according to the maintenance schedule.

  • Use appropriate hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and maintenance equipment safely and correctly.

  • Conduct basic measurements and inspections to verify equipment alignment, clearances, dimensions, and operating conditions.

  • Ensure that repaired equipment is properly tested and safe for operation before handing it over to the production team.

  • Maintain accurate records of breakdowns, maintenance activities, spare parts used, equipment condition, and repair history.

  • Report equipment defects, spare-part requirements, safety hazards, and other maintenance issues to the immediate supervisor.

  • Maintain and properly use maintenance tools, equipment, and workshop facilities.

  • Ensure proper housekeeping and 5S standards in the workshop and maintenance work areas.

  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), permit-to-work, machine isolation, and other applicable safety procedures before undertaking maintenance work.

  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety, environmental, quality, food safety, GMP, and company requirements.

  • Participate in root-cause analysis of repeated equipment failures and recommend corrective and preventive actions.

  • Contribute to reducing machine downtime, maintenance costs, equipment failures, and production losses.

  • Participate in continuous improvement activities to improve equipment reliability, availability, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

  • Perform other related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Job Requirements

Education:
Level IV TVET Diploma in General Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field of study.

Experience:
Minimum 4 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the beverage manufacturing industry, FMCG, food processing, or a similar manufacturing environment.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Good knowledge of mechanical maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.

  • Knowledge of industrial machinery and production equipment.

  • Good understanding of mechanical components, power transmission systems, pumps, valves, conveyors, and related equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and maintenance instructions.

  • Ability to use mechanical tools, measuring instruments, and workshop equipment.

  • Basic knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

  • Ability to perform equipment alignment, adjustment, installation, and assembly.

  • Good problem-solving and fault-diagnosis skills.

  • Knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance practices.

  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements, including LOTO procedures.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond to emergency breakdowns.

  • Ability to work in a shift-based production environment.
