Summary Job Description:
The Mechanic is responsible for providing on-site and mobile vehicle maintenance services for TCC-E vehicles, primarily at the Gambella Regional Office and supported district offices. The position ensures timely and cost-effective execution of scheduled vehicle services (A, B, and where feasible C and D services), minor repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance to maintain fleet operational readiness and safety.
The Mechanic operates as a mobile garage by traveling to field locations using assigned vehicles, performing maintenance activities at the regional office compound and district offices, and providing hands-on technical support and coaching to driver logisticians. The role ensures proper use of tools, spare parts, adherence to transport and safety policies, accurate documentation, and coordination with the Regional Logistics Officer, Vehicle Maintenance Coordinator, Fleet Officer, Regional Storekeeper, Regional Project Manager and Logistics & Procurement Manager.
The mechanic also makes an overall assessment of the TCCE vehicle operations, maintenance cost, the vehicles’ service year, travels to different regions, and assesses the capacity and strengths of the existing garage providing service to TCCE and provides a periodic overall report and expertise and technical recommendations for use by TCCE management and leadership for required decision making..
Key Responsibilities
• Conducts scheduled vehicle maintenance services (A and B services, and where feasible C and D services) for program vehicles based in Gambella, Abobo, and Gog).
• Performs routine inspections, diagnostics, and minor repairs to ensure vehicles are roadworthy and safe for field operations.
• Operates as a mobile garage by traveling to district offices to provide on-site vehicle maintenance services as per approved schedules.
• Coordinates with the RO Logistics Officer, VMC, and Fleet Officer, to plan maintenance schedules based on mileage and operational needs.
• Issues required spare parts from the Gambella Regional Office store in coordination with the Storekeeper and ensures proper documentation.
• Ensures all replaced or removed spare parts are returned to the store for verification, accountability, and inventory control.
• Maintains accurate maintenance records, service logs, and mileage-based schedules for all assigned vehicles.
• Supports driver logisticians during maintenance activities and provides on-the-job coaching to enhance their basic vehicle maintenance skills.
• Reports identified major mechanical issues that require garage-level repair or overhaul maintenance to the RPM, VMC, FO and L&PM.
• Ensures maintenance tools, equipment, and working areas are properly used, secured, and kept in good condition.
• Ensures compliance with TCCE transport policy, safety standards, and local traffic regulations during maintenance and vehicle operation.
• Conducts pre-trip and post-maintenance checks to confirm vehicle readiness for program activities.
• Assists in reducing vehicle downtime and maintenance costs by promoting preventive maintenance practices.
• Supports investigation and assessment of recurring vehicle faults and provides technical input for corrective actions.
• Ensures vehicles are equipped with required safety equipment, spare tires, tools, and documentation at all times.
• Prepares and submits summarized monthly maintenance activity reports to the RPM, RLO, VMC and L&PM.
• Performs driving duties as required to support maintenance activities and operational needs.
• Assists during emergency breakdowns and provides immediate technical response when required.
• Works closely with regional program teams to ensure maintenance services align with operational schedules.
• Works closely with the Fleet and Logistics team to assess the current technical status of TCC-E vehicles and motorcycles and provide management with recommendations to support decision-making, including identifying vehicles for disposal or handover to the Authority for Civil Society Organizations.
• Performs any other duties as assigned by the RPM and L&PM.
Job Requirements
Qualification: Degree or Diploma in Automotive Technology and Vehicle Management, and related fields.
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in vehicle maintenance and repair, preferably with NGOs or fleet-based organizations..
Additional Requirements:
Strong technical knowledge of automotive mechanics, particularly 4WD vehicles.
Valid Ethiopian driving license.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in field environments.
Good problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
Basic knowledge of spare parts management and documentation.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
High level of integrity, accountability, and adherence to organizational policies and code of conduct.
Willingness and ability to travel frequently within Gambella Region and district offices.
Constructive attitude and commitment to teamwork and knowledge sharing.
