Purpose of the Job:
Work as part of quality assurance team to aid in producing the safest and highest quality product that is practical. Preparation of procedures related to microbiological analysis, conduct microscopic analysis, ensure the availability of all required reagents and medias and proper sampling of water and finished wine products as per approved procedure and report the result appropriately with controlled reporting formats
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure implementation of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 22000:2005 and its sustainability.
Sampling, swabbing and microbiological testing of incoming materials, intermediate products, finished products, raw and treated water samples and other utilities requiring microbiological test.
Perform environmental monitoring and plant sanitation checks (winery equipment swab, environmental sampling, etc.)
Perform analysis following the laboratory operating procedures with attention to detail and with critical review to avoid errors.
Maintain Laboratory test equipment in good working condition and ensure laboratory areas are kept clean and tidy.
Calibrate, troubleshoot and operate laboratory equipment in accordance with laboratory operating procedures and equipment manufacturer recommendations.
Maintain Laboratory Equipment Calibration records.
Compile and Issue results, reports and records.
Perform internal and external Laboratory Quality Control.
Monitor laboratory chemicals, consumables and waste in accordance with Laboratory operating requirements.
Analysis and reporting is undertaken in accordance with the Laboratory Quality Systems.
Perform data analysis & evaluation capturing results in AWSC Microbial QA Dashboard.
Daily follow-up of Cleaning and sanitation activities of cellar and bottling.
Keep accurate sample records, proforma worksheets, QA sheets as per laboratory quality system requirements.
Ensure accurate transcription of data from workbooks, worksheets etc. to Laboratory computer database.
Systematically raise Out of Specifications or Non-conformances as necessary.
Perform root cause analysis
Eliminate testing variation and strive for zero errors
Other duties as required to fulfil the primary objective of promoting quality and food safety within Awash Wine SC.
Communicate clearly, directly and on a timely basis.
Comply with and ensure all company policies and procedures are followed.
Comply with all HSE policies and procedures
Perform your duties in a manner that is not hazardous to you or other employees.
Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as specified.
Report on all accidents, near misses and unsafe work practices/hazards to your supervisor.
Work in close association with cellar, bottling supervisors and utility supervisors of both branches.
Actively resolve problems in the workplace by putting measures in place to prevent recurrence.
Performs other related tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Core Competencies:
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Proficient in Microsoft office: Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel.
Knowledge of ISO standards.
Self-motivated and able to work independently.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Job Requirements
Education:
BSC Degree in Applied Biology or Food Microbiology.
Experience:
2 years of work experience in microbiology analysis and related activities.
