Main Purpose/Job Summary
Supervising the clinical activities and guaranteeing the quality of midwifery care in the department, according to MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards in order to provide a high quality Mother and Child Health (MCH) care to the population.
General Accountabilities:
Supervising, supporting and evaluating the team under his/her responsibility particularly midwives, midwifeassistants and other related staff in her team such as cleaners. Planning and organizing their work (areas, days, absences, visits, holidays, etc) and coaching them in their work with special focus in following all appropriate protocols and procedures
Ensuring teamwork and a professional relationship between maternity and other departments.
Supervising the clinical activities in all the maternity departments and activities such as antenatal consultations, delivery and after delivery follow up, post-natal consultations, family planning consultations, newborn vaccinations and liaising with MwAM about the patients who need special care times, visiting hours, etc.
Ensuring that the staff on duty knows, implements and follows at all times the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control in the medical premises ensuring high standards of hygiene in the working environment
Being responsible for the department related pharmacy activities (stock and consumption monitoring) as well as maintenance of the medical equipment
Being responsible for ensuring that all the administrative procedures, patients’ data and documents filled in correctly and registered for compiling monthly reports reflecting the activity in the department.
In certain contexts, being responsible for ensuring that the maternity staff is able to identify, receive and provide care to the victims of the SGBV in collaboration with MwAM and Ob Gyns MD following the protocols
Specific Accountabilities:
Providing direct Comprehensive Care through:
Coordinating, developing, and evaluating dailycare plans
Following up the provision of highquality midwifery and safe standards of care for mothers with their children and survivors.
Supervising the correct execution of therapy prescriptions by midwives in charge and the proper filling of the patients’ file.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with doctors, midwives, nurses, counselors, health promotion team and others.
Carrying out daily follow up and ensuring adequate staffing for all SRH services
Supervising to ensure emergency (referral) boxes are checked and ready to use for every shift
Supporting the team to ensure that patient files filled correctly and completely and Watch over the respect for the medical secret, dignity/intimacy of patients, and privacy/confidentiality by responsible staff in in the department to ensure a maximum of patients’ comfort.
Always advocating for mothers and promoting effective communication within the team
Organizing to ensure that the staff on duty knows, implements and follows at all times the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control in the medical premises ensuring high standards of hygiene in the working environment
Promoting Supportive Systems:
Facilitating SRH development and training programs for staff (Continuous learning and development) in liaison with line Managers
Developing and implementing clinical performance indicators for the department inliaison with MWAM
Organize focus group discussions in cooperation with the health promotion team, Midwife, SV Supervisor and/or HAO/ and information sessions to provide information to target groups.
Identify training needs, organize and coordinate training, coaching and supervision about SV for MSF healthcare providers and other MSF staff members, including community outreach teams and other staff, based on the findings of learning needs assessments, knowledge, attitude and practices questionnaires and observation.
Ensure Safeidentification of patients experiencing SV or IPV in SRH and other departments to create access to care.
Ensuring that all the administrative procedures, patients’ data and documents filled in correctly and registered for compiling monthly reports reflecting the activity in the department.
Assisting in the setting up and SRH care standards within the department
Capacity building:
Participating in staff performance reviewsand identifying training needs
Assessing the knowledge and skill levels of the midwife and providing on-the-job training, mentoring, lectures and supportive clinical supervision as needed to equip the staff with enhanced knowledge and skills to provide quality SRH services including:
The provision of Ante natal, postnatal care, family planning, SAC, PMTCT, STI screening/treatment and cervical cancer screening/treatment.
Provision of counselling services to mothers/survivors and general SRH lifestyle choices for parents and significant others.
Promoting health education sessions and developing teaching materials in liaison with MWAM and HP Supervisor.
Providing on-the-job training, mentoring, and supportive supervision to SRH midwives, particularly, topics that concern: maternal health and childcare such as pregnancy-induced hypertension, PMTCT, SV/IPV care, ANC/PNC care etc.
Research:
Contributing to audits and quality reviews of the SRH care services
Studying patient’s history and conducting health assessments for better outcomes
Routinely and timely data collection and analysis of relevant medical data and reporting

Remuneration and Benefits:
Starting Base salary: (N+0) –USD 1,210 [One Thousand Two Hundred Ten], payable in Ethiopian Birr (ETB).

Job Requirements
Education
Bachelor's degree Midwife(Diploma Midwife with Sexual and Reproductive health care
experience) recognized in the country and /or the Ministry of Healthto practice as such)
Experience
Essential Criteria: Minimum2 years’ experience as Midwife.
Desirable criteria: Having worked in MSF or other NGO (Experience in SGBV programs)
Languages
